Hi friends old and new.
Today is a personal achievement for me as I hit 5 yrs no gambling. In the last 5 yrs I’ve been through lots of different life changes and staying in recovery hasn’t been easy at all but I’m determined to continue with this. After the destruction gambling causes both mentally and finanacially I have spent the last few yrs trying to get my life back on track. I wont bore you all with the details as those who know me, know what I’m talking about from my previous postings on here and apart from keeping in recovery its all negative.
I have recently lost my job as a support worker which was extremely stressy hence the mistakes I made. No one was hurt through my mistakes, but the company came down hard on me and I was dismissed so now I’m facing yet another life change. Maybe I should have taken some time out on the sick to give myself some time, but I just carried on working, dedication you could call it. In the last 5 yrs I have been through all the life changes you can go through except moving house and I just hope soon I find work or I will loose that too and then I’ve lost everything. Today should be a happy day for me, but if I’m totally honest which I know I can be, I feel empty, numb and depressed.
I might not post very often on here but I do come back from time to time and read your posts. All the people on this site are at different stages in their recovery. For those of you who are really struggling, you need to keep a strong focus and not let gambling slip back into your lives. I find that when I get urges and I got them last week, I need to read others peoples posts on here to keep me in check. That is how I have got this far. The key to recovery is do not get complacent and think oh I’m ok now I wont gamble again, because it is so easy to slip back into. Recovery is a journey we will all go through together for the rest of our lives.
Once again I thank all the people on this site including all the staff for giving me so much support and giving me the strength to carry on.
I wish you all the best of luck in your own recovery.
Stay strong luv Sandy xxx
