Welcome to the forum and well done on taking a positive step and making it through Day 1. I would strongly recommend attending a new members group held on Mondays and Thursday if you have not previously done so, there you can get some great advice and tips including blockers you can put in place going forward.
You mentioned that your partner does not know you have a gambling addiction but the truth will have to come out soon.
While your partner finding out about your previous gambling is never going to be easy, from my experience, telling them yourself compared to them finding out on their own (which it sounds like is inevitable if you don’t tell them) will lead to a much better outcome for both you and her.
If you tell her first, that will allow you to be in control of being fully transparent, and honest, while also presenting the work that you are doing/have done to try and quit gambling such as 1)joining this forum, 2) Putting blockers in place such as closing existing accounts, software blockers etc, and ideas you have for how they can help if they want to continue on this journey with you such as taking sole control of the savings account at least in the short term.

For motivation til forandring var der et fælles tema blandt dem i gruppen, da vi først begyndte at søge hjælp og besluttede, at vi ville stoppe med at spille, var motivationen at stoppe dårlige ting, der skete i vores liv, uanset om det var økonomisk problemer, forholdsspørgsmål osv. Over tid, da tingene imidlertid begyndte at blive bedre, skiftede motivationen til flere positive ting som at forblive gældfri, spare, holde fast i vores forbedrede relationer osv. For at vide, at vi er motiverede, kom det mest til at de handlinger, vi tager. Hvis vi sætter blockers på plads, deltager i møder, skriver i forummet osv., Vil vores motivation generelt være høj, hvis vi alligevel begynder at bruge forummet mindre, deltager i mindre osv., Kan det være et tegn på, at vores motivation begynder at reducere fra, hvor det var. I attended the topic group on here last night and as usual, found it very useful. We had a useful and educational discussion on Motivation looking from 3 main questionds
- What is your motivation for change
- How do you know you are motivated
- How can you maintain your motivation
For motivation for change, there was a common theme among those in the group, when we first started to seek help, and decided we wanted to stop gambling, the motivation was to stop bad things that were happening in our lives, whether that was financial issues, relationship issues etc. Over time however, as things started to improve however, the motivation shifted to more positives items like staying debt free, saving, keeping up our improved relationships etc.
For knowing that we are motivated, it mostly came down to the actions that we take. If we are putting blockers in place, attending meetings, writing in the forum etc, our motivation will generally be high, if however we start to use the forum less, attending meetings less etc, that can be a sign that our motivation is starting to reduce from where it was.
For maintaining motivation, this links back into the first two parts. First we need to identify good items that will help motivate us, but over time we need to revisit and update these motivations as they are likely to change as we go through the recovery journey, and secondly, we need to be conscious of how motivated we are, and if we notice this motivation reducing, again revisit what we are using for motivation to see if those need updating.
