charlesModeratorListen to those people IDI. Some of them are likely to be not gambling at the moment – what things are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
charlesModeratorHi Jack,
No guarantees about what will happen if/when you tell your wife but whatever happens wouldn’t be as bad as her “finding out” by other means.
Whilst there is no easy way to tell her what does tend to make things easier is to not just present the problem. You can show her what you are going to DO to tackle the problem – things like Dunc has mentioned above.
She can also help with some of the things like accountability which is important.
Another reason to tell her would be that to not do so will make it harder to use the support you need. For instance if GA is the thing that helps you stop gambling then you won’t need to lie about where you go once a week. if using this site you won’t suddenly have to close your computer window if she comes in the room.
Things like that could obviously cause other issues and suspicions!
Whatever you do the important thing is to keep posting/using support. What actions can you take to make ytour next bet less likely? Those actions will both help you stop gambling and could help to rebuild trust etc with your wife.
charlesModeratorHi Vera,
There seem to be connection issues/gremlis this evening. I thin I am in the group ok as my text is showing there, hopefully you will have better luck in the next group.
If not then give us an update here.
charlesModeratorHi Victor, well done on looking for help.
Day Trading is just a different form of gambling and this is a gambling addiction.
You stopped before so the good news is that you know you can stop again. This time though use support. You are already looking at counselling which is great but it is important to use ongoing support as well. Here, somewhere like Gamblers Anonymous or where ever.
The barriers that will help you are the same as for gambling as well. I am sure that your wife will be delighted to help you with the financial accountability that will mean you can’t gambel in secret. You only lost a lt of money because you had easy access to it.
Keep posting, keep using support. You can stop trading/gambling I promise you.
charlesModeratorHi Vectevs ad welcome to the site. Well done on looking for help. First to answer the title of this thread – you haven’t been able to stop because it’s an addiction.
As you have mentioned suicide I also need too give you this link.
There is always someone to talk to and you have a lot of help available. There is a lot of life after gambling I promise you.
Read the other stories here. You will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation? Where do you normally gamble? Get yourself banned.
If you “gamble every little money you get” then how can you be accountable for that money? Your parents could help with that if you could find the courage to be honest with them.
You are not alone with this problem and there is a lot of help available these days. Sites like this, places like gamblers anonymous, counseling and more. Also financial options ranging from repayment plans through to bankruptcy.
Keep posting and let us know the steps you are starting to take.

charlesModeratorHi 47 West and welcome,
Hereditary? Learnt behaviour? Unhealthy escape techniques? A combination of these and oterh things?
All of the above might be true.
The important thing, when it comes to stopping gambling, isn’t the “why” though. It is to address the issue and do the things that help us stop gambling.
You ask about “alternative treatments?” I would recommend reading the other stories here and applying the tried and tested ones. Like putting barriers in place, like using support here, like getting to Gamblers Anonymous meetigns, putting barriers in place etc.
I would recommend trying to be honest wiht your husband. he is probably wondering where all the money is disappearing to anyway. he could help with some fo the barriers.
Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking to make your next bet less likely
charlesModeratorA great achievement Nick. Oner day at a time is small and achieveable – and can be life changing 🙂
charlesModeratorI hope you had a great birthday Nick, well done on your gamble free time. When it comes to age i would say life doesn’t begn at 40,50, 60 etc it begins wen we stop gambling 🙂
Phillip. scroll to the bottom of the forum page and click on new topic. You can stop gambling I promise you.
