Hi, I’m new to this forum. I’m afraid my husband is becoming addicted to online gambling for the past few weeks. He has stopped eating well, keeps awake whole night to gamble. We’re expecting and it’s my second month. I’ve tried talking to him, showed him articles about repurcussions of gambling, cried, fought, but it has made no difference. I’m unable to sleep at night because he’s awake gambling. I feel alone and afraid where and when will this end. Please help.

      Hi Cherry

Well done writing what must have been a difficult first post.

The most important thing for you to do is to look after you and your unborn child first. This might not seem like much of an answer to you but it works this way – whatever is going on with your husband, he will not be deliberately hurting you and the last thing he will want to do is wreck your lives. Feeling guilty about you will not change what he is doing.

The addiction to gamble is not something anybody would want, your husband neither asked for it, nor wanted it. He is almost certainly unaware of the way you feel and the damage he is doing to you and also to himself. His self-esteem and confidence will be low and sadly, he will believe that a gamble is the only answer for him.

I hope you can stop crying and fighting and losing sleep – these things only wear you out, ruin ‘your’ health and change nothing.

I hope that by posting here you will gain at least two things; one is that you will feel less alone because you are talking to people who understand; another is that you will learn to cope because by doing so you will hopefully be able to direct your husband to the support he needs.

I wouldn’t be here Cherry If I thought that your husband could not control his addiction – I know that with help, he can.

      Keep posting

      Velvet
