I start “trading” more than 15 years ago, when a friend told me that in Forex, you can get 400X leverage… I start there and after trading demo accounts, reading books, seminars, etc I loss around 10k in the next years… then I move from forex to stocks and futures, which was making money, and then a big loss… after a lot of research, time and energy invested… I move to selling options, which work very good for some years, and then a big loss… in the meanwhile it was hard to focus in my job, my mind was always thinking in new strategies… it help a few years ago, when I also take some loses… I start withdraw money from my trading accounts, to buy rental properties with mortgages, in that way, since the money is invested in the property, I didn’t have access, when “hot opportunities” show in the market… then after a few years of good returns, I start offering my “managing services” to friends and family, in general they made money, but all this take me a lot of stress, time and energy I also take big loans to make more in “hot opportunities” since I was paying around 5% a year in interest, and expect to make 20% a year, seem like a good business, until I get another loss, that make me sick… i was hard for me to sleep some nights, my stomach and back still hurt…. I’m happy that in my friends and family, didn’t take too much risk, so they have a small loss, but still up since inception… After making the GA 20 QUESTIONS, i start to understand that maybe I have a gambling problem… Being able to walk away from a bad gamble is a skill every gambler should have, and that includes gambling that’s bad for your health or social life. I want to move from active trading, to passive buy and hold, without leverage, and move money to pay my loans, and after that to continue investing in rental properties… Even if with active trading I can make in theory, 20% or 30% more per year, than a passive investment, it’s really worth all the time, energy, and loss opportunity in my job, which I loss? I am keep posting to stay close from this forum’s community and to always be reminded that I am a gambler any comment or advise will be appreciate.

I’m closing positions, no open new ones (even that I see some opportunities), the idea is to take some time without trading…

I also start listen the audiobook: The Easy Way to Stop Gambling

Thinking of all the vacations, and time with my family, when my mind was “in the markets” or when I have some “paper loss” and can’t enjoy these vacations, make me sad… but the best is yet to come!

Hi, what you wrote about ” forex options trading for 15 min” or binary options is pure gambling, since you buy the options and the odds are against you…

Selling options, with 45 days to expiration or more… look like a business. Since you have the odds in your favor, you became the casino or an insurance company… and you can make money most months of the year… the problem is the big losses that are hard to control, and the time, focus and energy that take…

My question to this forum is, if a gambler make some money, it’s still a problem?

      I start reading the book
The Easy Way to Stop Gambling by Allen Carr

      i has very valuable ideas…

      thanks

      Hi HPT,
      n
nJust seen your question. It’s not likely to happen but yes it could still be a problem. If gambling, or indeed anything, is done to excess/the detriment of other things with as you say the time, energy etc that it takes up. As I said though, it’s not going to happen with that lack of control you mention.
