There is a statistic thrown about that there is a 2% success rate for those who seek support for problem gambling.
This has made me feel quite competitive.
I so want to be in that top 2%.
Anyone want to join me there ?

Ok so here are two things to consider on this.
Firstly the 2%. This is a figure that is often quoted when talking about GA, usually by people who don’t want to go to GA. I’ve no idea where the figure comes from, as GA doesn’t keep stats, but for arguments sake lets say it’s true. The 2% success rate would include those who oly go to one meeting, those who only go to please partners/parents. Those who don’t take the advice, don’t work recovery. Who go for a while and then stop going. For the people who do keep going, do work recovery, do take the advice etc the % success rate would be much higher. The same would apply to pretty much any form of recovery really; those who take the advice here would have more chance than those who aren’t, someone who has counselling would have more chance of success if they are honest and open etc etc
So my main point is – to increase your chance of being in that 2% you need to increase your own percentage by commiting to recovery, taking the advice, putting in barriers, filling gamble free time, addressing the characer traits addiction has given us, doing the things your adiction is giving you lots of reasons not to do.
Ok and here is a 3rd point – the Stats don’t mean anything to us as individuals. As I always say to the newcomers here in the New Year period – if there is only ONE of you still posting here next year, one person taking the tough actions needed, make sure it is YOU.

Well done IDI.
It is imporant to remember that if the 2% figure is correct then it doesn’t mean that those in it have a 1 in 50 chance of success. They have a far higher individual % chance of success by taking the positive actions, taking the adviec and acting on it, using support correctly ec etc

Thanks Charles – the top 2%- even if it is accurate does not have to be a static figure.
With more and more support becoming available , this figure can rise .
Today I continue to be in the 2%.
Perhaps all the people on here seeking support make up this 2%.
I like that being in the top 2% makes something in my life which has been hugely negative into something really positive – an achievement of sorts .
I intend staying in the top 2% today. -
