Hello , my name is Alex , I’m from Romania . I am 19 years old and I have been a sports gambler for about 5 years .
The interesting part is , the sports gambling , I actually do not mind .
In 5 years I’ve never been on a severe spree , I just like watching football(soccer ) studying games, statistics and things like that .
Sometimes I bet less , sometimes I bet more , depending on the days offer of matches, but I never overdo it . So as long as I would walk in the betting agency , place my tickets and leave, everythibg would Be fine with me . But obvisouly , If that is how to would go, i would not Be there writing this .
Usually im going to the agency , thinking there are a lot of games, and I could make some nice tickets. But before I get to “study” the games I hook up at the slots and waste all my money , more than I can afford . It has gotten out of hand lately .
Last time I had a spree with slots I wasted a lot of money (i don’t think numbers matter , could be 100£ , could be 10£, could be 100000£ , it’s just how much they mean for everyone ) I quit slots for a few good months. I noticed I started betting on recorded dog races , but that wasn’t as bad for my finances as slots , so everything was reasonable.
I don’t mind if I don’t win at sports betting , it’s a hobby of mine which sometimes (I know not for the long run) might give me a little extra money, it also helps that I only go once per day to place betting tickets , so there is no chasing losses in the heat of the momebt. I do not chase losses since it’s really minor betting, which stayed this way over some good years and as I said, it is just a hobby . What upsets me if that I’ve fallen into the pit of slots machines . I realise I am a CG , and Today is the first day I do not play the slots . It is because I don’t have any money left , but even when I will get money, I don’t plan on throwing it in the slot machine or go place it all on sports betting thinking I would win my money back .
Today is day one, the first day I do not gamble on something which is based purely on luck, on something which I have absolutely no control over . Again, hopefully for the last time.

Hi Alex, well done on looking for help.

It’s good that you realise that you are a Compulsive Gambler. This is a gambling addiction so here are a couple of things for you to think about.

Firstly are the slots in the same location that you go to place your sports bets? If so, as an addict, it will make it hard for you to avoid them.

My second thought is that whilst it’s the slots that are currently causing the problem the addiction doesn’t really care how it gets it’s fix. Cut out those slots, and try and continue with other forms of gambling, then those other forms of gambling could very soon become a problem.

      Keep posting.

Yes , all the sport betting locations have slot machines, sadly.
During the time I didn’t play slots my betting didn’t change , I mean I was only able to bet as much as I liked , without hurting my finances . That period was for about a half a year.
I don’t get nearly the same thrill from betting as from slots. Emotions about betting are only a tad of sadness when I’m 1 goal short or when the ticket is lost in the last minute , or some sort of laughter I’d say, when my bet is not even close to the reality of the game . For example under 2.5 goal and the game ends with a tennis score and so on. I am very aware that by betting the way I do, I will not get rich and I’m fine with it.
I have something to occupy my time and I only pay at 1 moment of the day for it, unlike slots , in which you literally pour money for a bit of momentarily fun , which turns into days of sorrow . Bonus is every once in a while I get some extra cash , which I am well aware is not as much as I spend , but it’s OK. I’m betting low amounts and couldn’t go high with them. For slots I go pouring money without realising , for example 200 of some currency . If I were to place on a ticket more than 20-30 of the same currency I would cringe. I don’t feel the need to bet to get rich easy as I do with slots .

Today is the 2nd day of the new life, of the happiness i am ready to embrace. Even if I’m not doing well with money, i have to put some money back where it belongs, everything is ok. Got some money today, went to place a ticket, i’ve placed a low amount of money on it. Saw the slots, watched them , felt like playing. Thinking i could try them some, maybe I’ll get on track with my finances, but decided I’ll certainly be closer to my goal by saving the money instead of throwing it out the window. Gambled a bit on dogs, I got lucky and nailed a race. I tried a couple more races, same amounts as usual, didn’t win anymore so i left with some good profit, and tickets placed. Got some money to get cigarettes and go drink a coffee and stuff, enjoy myself a bit .
I’m happy i decided to keep the money, maybe i would’ve thrown all i had before even getting to see that dog race and would’ve left sad. Ticket was not a winner but I don’t mind.
Everything is headed for the better, so all good.
Looking forward for day 3, 4 and so on 😀 have a nice day people.
