Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums.
Here at Gambling Therapy, we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum, you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum, so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group on Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care.

zoyaModeratorHi Shashinicka,
It is good that you have joined the forum! Try not to blame yourself too much as it can be difficult to quit gambling. For now, it may help if you focus on your feelings and actions in your gambling diary and fill in the void that gambling has left with new things to do.
zoyaModeratorYou are doing well, Seunzee. Stay strong.

zoyaModeratorHi Sian82,
We have recently discussed your urges to gamble, so, well done for joining the forum! You are currently doing the right things such as blocking access, reaching out for support and starting your recovery journal. It takes a lot of inner strength to admit your addiction and resist your urges to gamble. Therefore, do not despair and remember that having a strong desire to gamble is part of the initial stages of recovery. Many others had the same struggles and managed to overcome their addiction.
It may help if you think about the reasons behind your gambling urges (e.g. stressful day, arguments, seeing gambling adverts, etc.) and look for healthier ways of regulating your moods, such as going for a walk, exercising, spending time with people who do not gamble… Remember, that urges to gamble do not last 24/7 and if you resist your impulses, then eventually, these will become weaker and easier to manage.
Writing about your thoughts and emotions may help you better understand your problem and we will do our best to support you. You may also consider joining our peer support groups (text-based) https://www.gamblingtherapy.org/support/about-support-groups/
