Sorry to hear about your car, Jay.
Look at it this way, if you had kept on gambling, you mightn’t even have a car now.
‘Hope it doesn’t cost too much to fix.

WE know that gambling is an Illusion, Kin.
    A lie.
    Deceit.
    False hope.
When we look in the wrong place for love, we find fear.
When we look in the wrong place for joy, we find sorrow.
When we look in the wrong place for peace we find turmoil.
When we look in the wrong place for hope we find despair.
START LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACES ,KIN.
    You know where they are.
Well done on starting a new thread.
    Stop grieving about your loss.
    This is A New Beginning.
    Another chance.
Use the lessons you learned to make you stronger and wiser.
    Say the Serenity Prayer.

    Just take ONE Step, Dan
    The First One
“admit I am powerless over gambling and my life has become unmanageable”
Every one who walks into a GA Meeting takes that Step.
I think I’m still on Step One.
Nobody will push you to talk about how many steps you have taken. I think, in Life as well as GA we step forwards , sideways and backwards. Some stand still. There is no rush Dan. Even if you are wobbling on Step 1 and not gambling, that’s a great move.
    Time passes.
    It waits for no man.
    Time heals.
    Time is precious.
Time is far more valuable than money.
I regret the time I wasted , far more than the money I lost.
    Give yourself time, Dan.
Your present frame of mind is one of fear and dread. I understand that fully. “Why” played hell in my head for years.
I couldn’t answer my own “Why” until I realised that for a CG there is no “Why” because “Why NOT” takes over when we succumb to the very first urge to gamble and give ourselves the licence to continue until the awful crash comes.
I can guarantee you, Dan that 12 months from now you will look back and see things differently. I think we sometimes do those Steps unknownst to ourselves. Every time we say no to gambling its a step towards recovery.
    Try to forgive yourself.
You still have time to make up for your mistakes.
    One day at a time.

Now, think of what happens if we DON’T stop, Paul
    The opposite to the above.

I hope you stayed away from the first bet, Maverick?
WE are powerless over gambling but only when we make that first bet.
In the inactive mode , gambling has no power over us.
Keep Life simple. We create a lot of difficulties by adding stress and conflict to what many other people just laugh off.
Gambling solves none of our stresses. The “fun” has long since gone, therefore it has no place in our lives.

    Did the urges pass, Mickey?
The Serenity Prayer works for some.
I find having no outlet to gamble ( i.e.no money or venue) keeps me safe (until the next time)
    Urges come and go
    The consequence of gambling lingers.

Think of the 12 Steps, Kin.
We don’t stroll or walk up steps.
    We have to CLIMB!
    Climbing will strengthen us.
    We all need to climb.
And if you look back, you will see a fellow climber struggling and you will reach out your hand to pull him up.
Likewise, the climber on the higher step will reach his hand for you to grasp.
    It’s Life’s Chain, Kin.
We are all on the stairway together.
    You are not alone.
There is Someone greater than the climbers in charge.
One day we will all reach the summit.
    Keep climbing!

Its good to get 13 weeks under your belt, Jay but it can also be a “dodgy” time for a CG. Things getting back to normal, funds building up, feeling a bit more sure of ourselves……complacency can set in. It happened to me too often , that’s why I’m mentioning it. Is your GF still handling the finances? Any progress on the trust issue?? We need to stay alert and walk a step ahead all the time.

So sorry to hear you have invited this Hell back into your life, Dan. Gambling will never bring joy or peace but recovery will, so it’s time to make the choice AGAIN-back to the drawing board or stay in Hell.
We have all been at this crossroad, Dan, looking back with regret on burning bridges, debt, and the empty black hole we have dug with personal shovels. It’s an awful place to be. Everything appears bleak and negative right now, Dan but you have to cling on to the hope of finding a way out of the quagmire you have created and use that glimmer of hope to leave this recent disaster behind you.
Can you go back to GA? Find someone to sponsor you this time. Or if you feel it is necessary check out Rehab? There are lots of helpful “treatments” for gamblers.
Well done on coming back to GT for a start.
    Keep posting.

God DOES help those who try to help themselves, Paul . I could relate many similar stories, testimonies of Divine intervention, but I mostly I stay silent because people have different beliefs and opinions on who their Higher Power is. Personally, I KNOW my Higher Power and He sure knows me .
Today we were clearing out old tea chests from the garage where my husband has stored them for years for a friend who moved back to the UK and whose wife died about twenty years ago. He has to make a decision on what to do with these things-mainly books. We came across her bible and I flicked through the pages and what do you think fell out…a Picture of St Anthony!! Yes, Tuesday is St Anthony’s Day. I have a friend who attends the Nine Tuesday devotions. She has had a lot of prayers answered.
It is only when we really need Him, that we turn to God. We move away. He remains in the one place. Waiting.
Now you know for certain that you are not alone.

    Well done on 48 days
Dreams can play tricks with our minds.
Stick to reality. You won’t gamble today.
I have said “I will never gamble” again ten thousand times. If we keep saying that every day it will come true.
I sometimes c ount the money I should/could have had. It won’t bring it back . Its gone. All we can do, Jon , is resolve not to let any more go astray.
Gambling costs more than money and there are many things in life that no money can buy.
    Stay focused. How’s your back?

    Amen to the above posts.
    Gambling is a progressive illness.
Cut it out now and suffer the “bereavement” or treat yourself to the long, slow, cruel regime where you will ruin your own life and the lives of your loved ones while you wait for your “win” (sic). Gambling, for CGs who have crossed the line, will always end in bitter tears.
