    Very moving story, Southside!
I am also at the point you are at.
Starting again. Trying to”claw” my losses back, but this time not by “winning” it back.
Like you, I will be saving.
There is one big difference between us. You are almost 40 years younger than me!
Well done on looking for help when you still have time on your side.
    Welcome to GT!

    I hear you BU,BUT!
It is never good to gamble! It is never “meant to happen” ! I used to apply that warped thinking to my life. I would buy clothes, presents ,meals out etc etc to make myself feel good. Usually bought with borrowed money. How crazy is that!! That is flawed thinking BU! Believe me its just another way to justify our gambling.Look closely at what gambling has done.I know, in my case it has ruined my life!
Nothing good comes from gambling. All those material things count for nothing compared to peace of mind and freedom. As you rightly say,it is soul destroying!

    Well done Fritz!
I agree that changing our mindset with regard to gambling is what recovery is all about! I call it AWARENESS!
When we suffer enough we will seek the “cure”! Every one knows when the time has come to call a halt to the madness we once called fun! Some call it “recovery”, some say its “Grace” and others call it “burnout”! Here lies the hub of the problem. GA tells us there is no cure. GT tells us we will always be CGs! Easy Way goes a step further and says we are “non gamblers”. We become confused as the plot thickens! In my experience , the human brain has a mechanism for obliterating pain and bad memories .This “gift” gives us the ability to repeat the behaviour we resolved to shun forever. Herein lies all our grief and pain!
I have seen people who go along with each of the aforementioned theories who have remained G free for many years (same with alcoholics).I have also seen people (myself) who have sworn that they will never gamble again, succumb to the “addiction” and relapse . What happened to our changed mindset?
When I discovered GT in 2008, I was fully convinced I would never gamble again. I did! When my sister died in 2009,I swore “this is it”! I will not dishonour her memory by gambling again. I did! When I white knuckled it through 2010,I thought “maybe this is IT” but after a clean year I exploded again in 2011….fast forward to 2013, when I had to take early retirement due to ill health . Again I swore “never again” but failed AGAIN… I guess what I am saying , Fritz is that everyone follows a different path and there are no certainties. I really wish there were! All I do know is every time I gambled it happened because I didn’t put enough effort into NOT gambling. I gave in instantly and indulged my whims selfishly and recklessly to the point of near destruction.
Today I did not gamble. By God’s Grace I will say the same every day, forever. I don’t take from what others believe or do, but I do know that every time I gamble, my life ends up in more and more chaos. Humanly speaking ,this problem is beyond my control!

Having enough money can also be the ruination of a CG, Happy!
As CGs of course, we will never have enough. I’m reversing my thinking. Looking at all the things that don’t cost money. I agree totally that money does bring some security into our lives but it can’t buy love or true peace or freedom! It often gives us a false security .
If I lashed down two glasses of wine I wouln’t be going to any party! lol!

Hope your weekend is going well Seri. Your mention of Cheltenham brings back memories. A cousin of mine got a few grand redundancy money in his twenties ( almost 30 years ago) Huge money in those days. He was fond of the gigis Went over to Cheltenham. Didn’t have the fare left for the return ferry. There must be Gambling problems in my family (lol) Also my brother was a Big Fan. Used to tell the story of Jonjo O Neill’s chat with Charmaine Hill after Dawn Run’s big win . He was to “look after” the stable guys . She agreed to “look after” the yard lads They were all expecting at least 50 quid each (big money back then) She bought them a cake to celebrate !!!
Goes to show how wealthy these people are. Money follows money and CGs made them even richer! (I wonder is William Hill any relation of hers?lol!!) Probably all before your time Seri!! Back to the present…Can you find someone to talk things though with in real life before you take responsibility for your own funds? I know Geordie always says here that talking out issues prevents him from gambling. Put a plan in place well in advance, Seri! It’s too easy to get caught when we drift!

Some people like to poke fun Adam. Maybe your mate is a CG in denial?
I know a few people I confided in laughed in my face. Makes you feel a bit sorry you told them but that’s Life . Some we win. Some we lose. You sure learn who your friends are when you’re down!
Just give him the bird next time you see him Don’t waste your breath arguing!

The Devil is only a pussy cat compared to Gambling Addiction, Fritz, but yes, I do believe gambling originates from Evil Sources We need Super Powers to protect us. Just my thoughts!

Thanks for taking the time to explain all that JD!
I’m a total dope when it comes to computers! At present I have Betfilter. Don’t ask me how I managed to download it but I did. I learn on the hoof and the hard way! As soon as it expires I will get going on K9.
I’m good at flushing things down the toilet. Usually 50 euro notes!

    You are right, JD!
A CG cannot blame a Gambling Site or a Casino for losing.
I made that point too on BU’s thread. CGs never win! The system these gambling sites use by keeping “our” money floating in air is a temptation to re visit the scene of the crime. In land based casinos you check out immediately. Look at your wad of notes and get a split second to decide whether to walk out or play again. I very seldom walked out. I found the online thing slower and more subtle.
The root cause lies deep within each of us. Every CG knows that!
Glad that blocker is working for you! I need to find one that fits my brain! Any tips?
