BU, I have noticed for years that there is a link between those games on the phone and playing slot machines. I used to play “Snake” madly, as I drove to the casino. I couldn’t even stop on roundabouts. When I ease off on gambling my Snake playing subsides too. I see it now as a bad omen when I start playing again. I won’t allow myself to play them They have the same effect on me as gambling does. They cause tension and a restless buzz. Do you find that?

Yes, gambling is like walking on a tight rope. It creates major anxiety!

    HI “HD”,
I don’t like using the title you have chosen but you can change it in time, when things become more hopeful, and with proper help and support, they will!
I know you feel as if you are teetering on the brink of total disaster right now but if you can see even a glimmer of light, I suggest you hold on to that and take every bit of support you get to move away from gambling because as you have discovered, it brings no joy.
Posting here was a huge move.
Why not pop into the Helpline for a one- to -one chat or join one of the Chat Groups in Real time?

Great to hear you are G -free, John and that you have constant work and a ticket bought to see your son. All the things that you were only dreaming of a few months ago!
I hope you mood lifts. In my experience, sleep and weather influence our mood and “humours”! Everything passes!

    Great post Charlster!
I do believe it is only by God’s Grace that we finally quit the chaos that we have created in our lives by compulsive gambling. Years of human destruction cannot be restored without intervention from a Higher Power. I think that is the underlying message of GA. Admit I am powerless. Surrender!
Of course there are human elements running through every CG’s recovery, but I have asked myself over and over why one person fails and another succeeds? Why at one given time a person can resist gambling at at other times throw caution to the wind and undo all the effort? Why now? Why me? Why you? Why not? So much is outside our control. Humanly speaking, we can only do so much to help ourselves. I accept people here have differing viewpoints and very different experiences but when I read that you have survived “by God’s grace” I can relate to that statement. Sometimes we seek recovery in the wrong places and at the wrong time.
Staying focused on Survival is crucial !
Congrats on your G free month! May it be the start of many, odaat!

Maverick, if you are experiencing suicidal ideation you need to seek instant help.
This Site is brilliant but some problems are outside it’s scope.
Can you call your MH Community Team before they break up for Easter holiday?
‘Seems you need extra “hurdle” help right now.
Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem!

When I read your post, Maverick, saying you are spending time away from home , I (CG mind) became suddenly alerted to the fact that you are now entering an unsafe zone!!! Are there unblocked laptops/computers in your parent’s home?
As I mentioned earlier, Mav and I agree with Charlster , Bankcruptcy seems like a good option. Check it out!

Early days BU! When I first realized I was in Deep Sh%t, I found walking a great help. Symbolic, as well as time consuming. I was walking away from my past. I also used baking as a distraction. Still do!
I hope you get support from your nearest and dearest. I didn’t!!! In hindsight, I was lucky though that he didn’t pack his bags and leave OR PACK MINE!
I’m having flash backs these last few days to the destruction and chaos I created by gambling. Delayed shock! The debt is still scary. I’m very lucky to have a GT “Buddy” I can email to share with. Means a lot because in my experience, non CGs , no matter how well intended. just don’t “get it”!
Make sure your Gambling counsellor has experience in G counselling before you go there!

Treasure those “tips” Adam! You are doing great. £76 is a fortune! Equal to hundred euro!!!!
My “round up rule”always involved €50 notes!!!!
I still cringe when I think of the owners emptying those machines and laughing all the way to the bank!
I forgot to kiss it goodbye!!
