It sounds like you have really recognized that you have a problem and you are willing to fight to get your life back. These are great steps. I’m on day 12 gamble free, there have been some ups and downs but overall hope is starting to return and I’m looking forward to enjoying life fully again.

Today was much better than yesterday, I didn’t think a ton about gambling and overall felt much better. Yesterday was a very heavy depressing day and today was lighter overall if that makes any sense.

Is it possible to get your family with you in the US?

No one can entirely relate to your situation. You have a very unique situation. All I know is that usually people who are highly successful and fall usually have the ability to get back up and achieve that success. You have lots of barriers it sounds, a sick child, in a new country etc. but I think you can do it.

Now, can you step back from all the pain and shame in the gambling losses and deceit of family/friends/business people back home and honestly evaluate if your family will be in danger. Why would they be in danger, do you owe money to people who are capable of hurting your family or is the whole situation just have you so on edge that you are afraid of anything now, even if the likelihood is extremely low. Please let us know your thoughts.

Two things may be coming into play here:

    1. Friend is not being truthful
    2. Friend is on a lucky streak

Lots of betting systems have very poor risk reward metrics. For example you risk $1000 to make $50 but your “winning” percentage is relatively high…maybe you win 95% of the time but your winners are small but that 5% of the time when you lose, you lose all of your winners plus some of your own money. The thing is you can go a long time without losing but if you have a few losers in a row it can get out of hand really really fast. Just some stuff to think about maybe.

You have also used the word “system” in several of your posts, that you are hoping your betting system comes through for you. The truth is, there is no betting system that works, obviously yours does’t work or you wouldn’t be bleeding money. Like FM said, stop now, stop thinking you have a winning system and you can rebuild your money and your life.

In the short run you might win or you might lose but as Vera has said a number of times CG lose in the long run and lose allot more than just financial. I’m right there with you, I’m struggling with finding some money to gamble with to make back my losses thoughts. Quitting while down feels a bit depressing because we’re always “one streak away” etc. But once you go down that rabbit hole and lose, now you are down 60k and probably feel worse, where does it go from there? 70k 80k 100k? Just some thoughts.

Welcome, you can do it. What kind of gambling are you addicted to? Physical location or online?

It’s interesting how these urges come and go. 2 or 3 days ago I was thinking about my favorite games allot, over the weekend started thinking about how I could get money arranged to play if I chose to, today I actually went to the website to look at the games that I could play. I didn’t play, I don’t want to lose any more money but it is so tempting. Ultimately, we may have the temptations but we are the ones who make the final decision. Long term we know we can’t win at this. One day at a time as you have said many times.

Woke up feeling a bit down. My mind has entertained the thoughts of gambling but I’m not going to today. Yesterday didn’t hardly think about it at all. Just have to get through day by day.
