Best day so far in my recovery , just an ordinary day nothing special just good .
mickyParticipantNot sure if most gamblers realise this but whatever you have put your money on your backing against all the others i.e. if theres 10 runners in a race your backing against the other 9 not beating yours .
mickyParticipantTry to imagination if someone you know came to you for advice on a gambling problem ( you didn’t know they had one) then imagine all the advice you would give them . Just a bit of reverse psychology.
mickyParticipantStress, anxiety and worry are all things we humans suffer from at certain points in our lives and our gambling addiction only makes them worse to the point our lives become unbearable. Working as hard as you can to overcome this addiction is a priority we must all do to get our normal lives back .
mickyParticipantHi Sherlocked don’t beat yourself up it’s a lapse thats all, brush yourself down and go again, unfortunately the temptation will always be there but you can put things into place to reject the temptation.
mickyParticipantBeing mentally strong is a must when we resist the temptation to gamble telling our brain no when it’s telling us yes is very difficult , if your right handed and tell your brain to pick up a cup say with your left hand, eventually your brain will get used to it .
mickyParticipantGetting the urge to gamble today through boredom i “surfed the wave ” until the thought settled down and gradually went away 5-10 minutes of brain training thoughts of just exactly where it would lead if i gambled .
mickyParticipantHi Icandothis thanks for your post , if we sit down and write all the things down we can do instead of gambling the list is endless i sometimes force myself to do stuff ( give myself a push) but it’s always worth it looking back on a productive day .
mickyParticipantToday 02/02/2003 is the anniversary of my dad passing away so a bit of a mixed emotional day for me , good memories to think about though . Strange to think my dad never gambled nor do my siblings or anyone else i can think of in my family. Although it’s an addiction it can be beaten with hard work both physically and mentally, i’m finding working out more often really helps and mentally there is just so many different things we can do to overcome this addiction and stay in recovery .
mickyParticipantNot gambling and staying not gambling requires massive lifestyle changes. But all the effort i put into it is so worthwhile , getting up in the morning clear headed and ready for the day ahead is so much enjoyable now, and being in control of my life is just so much easier, life is good to say the least.
mickyParticipantLiving life one day at a time is a great way of getting where we want to be so stick with it in our recovery because it works folks. ๐

mickyParticipantNot sure where rock bottom is, iv’e been there so many times my head hurts thinking about it , prison, kids who ignore me , wanting to die, several suicide attempts , i think rock bottom is death for me, and the peace that will bring me because i have no peace in my life …………….
