I think that most of us have thought that we would be better off dead. I think that it is a sign that it’s time to make changes. If you are feeling suicidal, please call the helpline or talk to a friend!! There are a lot of things that you can do to take control of your gambling addiction. GA meetings, GT (keep posting and reading others posts), counseling, self help books, blocking accounts and giving your money and cards over to someone else. This is a powerful addiction but there are many people here who have overcome their addiction. I think it would be very difficult to stay gamble free while working in a casino. There is always hope. Keep strong. ODAAT.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Kathryn Seven years with 1 slip, amazing. You should be so proud of yourself!!! I’m glad that everything is going well with you. How is your Mother doing? It was good to see your post! Take care.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Danchaser, It is good that you are going to gambling meetings and that you have started dating again. It must have been hard going on a date after 30 years, but you did it! It must have went well as you are going on another one. Remember to take it ODAAT! Just get though this day without gambling. Gambling is so self destructive and overwhelming for us. I think that believing in some higher power has helped me tremendously not only with gambling. Just believe in yourself and stay strong!!!
lizbeth4ParticipantI just wanted to say congrads on your gamble free time!
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Kin, I hope you are having a great weekend. Thank you for sharing your posts. I always seem to be able to take something away from them to help me in my daily life! Take care.
lizbeth4ParticipantGood going on not gambling! Keep going! Take care!
17 July 2016 at 5:17 pm in reply to: What is the most irrational thought you have had before, during or after gambling? #33925lizbeth4ParticipantMy most irrational thought when I am gambling is that I am going to have a big win and that I will take it and walk out of the casino and never come back! Anything that is won goes back into the machines. Maybe not the same day but eventually. If we could control our gambling actions, we would not be here!
lizbeth4ParticipantHi John, You are doing awesome! It is good that you have taken steps with your debts and money. That is a big step! I know that the hole we dig for ourselves looks big but with patience you will see results! What are you doing for your gambling urges? Besides the support and groups here, there are support groups that you can attend. Sometimes it helps to be with others in your same situation. Even reading self help books can give you insight. Anyways, keep doing what you are doing! Take care.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Micky, Thanks for taking us along in your journey. I am going to take it O.D.A.A.T. also. I think that things work a lot better when we live in the now instead of the future. Have a great gamble free weekend.
lizbeth4ParticipantI like the project too!
lizbeth4ParticipantMaverick, Don’t give up! Although it feels like you can’t get out of the hole, you can! You have done it before. We are a lot stronger than we give ourselves credit for. Thank you for the advise on family. You and others here have been my support system and I want to say thank you!!! Take care and keep posting.
14 July 2016 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Gambling addiction only when I’m drunk (Sorry if I posted it wrong, I searched and I can’t find the place) #33901lizbeth4ParticipantHi Asus, I am a CG! You are very young and it is good that you came here for help with your gambling. If you think that you have a drinking problem maybe you should address that also. You have your whole life ahead of you. I think that it shows a sign of maturity that you came here for help. There are support groups here and posting and reading others threads help a lot. I don’t drink but I used to smoke. I quit 5 years ago. I would smoke until my lungs hurt while in the casino. I think a lot of things go hand in hand. Drinking, smoking, overeating, gambling! Just my thoughts. Keep posting. Take care.
lizbeth4ParticipantI don’t think that it matters what we have lost gambling. (moneywise) No one ever wins it all back!!! Anyone who has a gambling addiction and tells you this is lying to themselves. I think we lose a lot more than money. We lose our integrity, faith and self respect. You can dig out of your debt. You can consolidate your debts, set up repayment plans with creditors, ect… First you need to ban yourself from casinos, seek support here and maybe GA meetings. One day at a time. Things will get better!
lizbeth4ParticipantI am sorry that you are going through such a hard time! I had a terrible day also! I wanted to gamble but didn’t. Sometimes we have to dig deep although it may be very painful. There are reasons why we gamble and do destructive things to ourselves. Many times we have unresolved issues that we are trying to deal with or toxic people in our lives. For myself, I am going to get more counseling. Is there anything that you can do that will help you cope better? I am thinking and praying for you. Remember we can only change ourselves!!!!
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Don’t give up. You will figure it all out. Everyone has to start somewhere. I think my final low was when I gambled last weekend. Although I didn’t lose a lot, it did something to my soul. I decided that there is more to life. That I am missing out on life by gambling. I will be thinking and praying for you to find strength during this difficult time in your life. Take care of yourself.
