lizbeth4ParticipantHi Adam, Congrads on your 3 weeks gamble free time and self exclusions. Keep going! You are doing great. Have a awesome weekend.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi DaniA, Wow, I am impressed. You have really implemented many things towards your recovery. It is hard but you have all of our support here!!! Keep doing what you are doing. It is hard but you can do it!! Take care.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Stilltime, I found it is never too late to stop the gambling madness. It does take a lot of barriers, banning, and support to get through this journey. You have the support here from all of us and you have banned yourself, a good start!! It is hard!!! ODAAT! Stay strong. Keep posting!!!
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Slotjunkie, ODAAT! We have all been there. Put barriers in place and continue getting support from here and other places to make your journey easier. The first step was your honesty, which can be hard for us CG’s. Now you can go forward. I am hoping that you have a awesome gamble free weekend!! Stay strong. Keep posting!!!!
lizbeth4ParticipantKin, Learning to be grateful for even the little things in life has been so important in my recovery. I was so focused on money that I couldn’t enjoy all the people and things around me. I think there will always be a war raging inside of us CG’s. It just matters how we respond to it! I can’t even guess how much money I have lost to gambling over the years. I do know that my losses havd been marginal since I came here. ODAAT, Kin.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Kathryn, I was reading Vera’s thread and saw your post about your Mother. So sad! I am sorry. It must be really hard for you to see her that way. I complain about my Mother but I do love her and would do anything for her. You are such a sweet, kind person. Take care.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Eric, You have to cut your losses! We have to forget how much we have lost to gambling and move forwards. We will never recoup our losses. It just snowballs into another big loss. It is difficult to not gamble but if you put barriers in place it can be more manageable. Try to limit your access to money and credit cards. Have someone you trust hold them for you. Use only cash for things. GA meetings might be helpful also. Use any tools you can to help work for you. Things will get better. ODAAT!
lizbeth4ParticipantHi DaniA, I think that you should put every and any barrier in place. Only operate with cash. Give all debt and credit cards to your Husband. Have him give you a weekly allowance. Isn’t there something that you can put on your computer to block the gambling sites? Seems like I have heard of it here. I have never gambled online only in casinos. GA-when I first came here the meetings where very helpful. You could give it a try. I am glad that your Mother knows where you are coming from and is so accepting and helpful. I got to the point with my gambling that I was so stressed out about money that it literally made me sick. I had a heart attack and I really believe it was from the stress and worry!!! I think it is good to talk with someone who doesn’t know you one on one. A psychologist, counselor. I don’t like the idea of taking a lot of medicines to control the urges either. Try to do it other ways first. I am in your corner rooting for you!!!!!!
lizbeth4ParticipantHi, DaniA, I have gone to a psychologist for my gambling before. They will give you advice on things that you can do to stop gambling, example; GA. Mine dug deeper about the issues causes me to gamble and how to deal with them also. It was very insightful. Just keep a open mind.
lizbeth4ParticipantHi Kin, I loved your above post! Recovery has been a journey of self discovery for me also! I have learned a lot about myself. We can’t ever get back the things that we missed out on when we were gambling but we can make now and the future better! Keep going on your journey. I wish you nothing but the best!
lizbeth4ParticipantCongrads on your 9 days gamble free! Remember ODAAT! You are doing great in putting up barriers and going to meeting was helpful for me also. I go to the gym also and try to get together with friends when possible. I understand being in a low place mentally but exercising and hanging out with positive people does help. Keep going! Stay strong.
