Unfortunately deleting emails isn’t an option as they are used for so many other things at the moment, but I like your thinking!

Thank you so much for your supportive comment, having this community will really help me. Especially in these early days!!

Thank you so much for your comment.

I have been thinking about this and emails from casinos are definitely one thing that encourages me to gamble, even when I’ve been away from it for a while. Boredom is also a big factor. Immediate unsubscribe when any emails come through is an obvious first step and having things planned for quiet days when boredom strikes is another.

At least I can bring my lessons forward from previous attempts and I’m now more capable of stopping for good!

After being away from the forum for a while, it is so nice to see you have your own thread. You support everyone else so much so I appreciate being able to follow your story too!

The thing you said about “just working harder” has really hit a chord with me. I was actually thinking about just that this morning. Most days I try to come up with ways to make more money…whilst still gambling and paying large amounts towards loans, which I took out in order to gamble.

We all know that stopping gambling is not easy, this is why we need the forum, but the benefits of stepping away and looking after our money would make for a far easier life. And more secure life of course, should anything happen!

I’m grateful that you share the lessons which you’ve learnt. They’re really helping me to move away from this terrible addiction.

    Thank you!

I’m definitely no expert, as I’m beginning again for the fourth time, but one thing I have come to understand is that you need to look at why you gamble. Often for me it is because I need more money (and somehow think I can find it in gambling) or I’m just bored.

Keep track of any triggers. Any time you think about gambling, come on here and document it instead of playing.

Also, make sure to self exclude from every casino that you use. Use gambling blocks and any other tools that you can to restrict your access to poker in every way possible.

Good luck, I’m right here with you!

Today is day one for me, again!

Any blocks that you can put in place should really help. I have found myself falling back into the trap when I get promotional emails from casinos, so maybe make sure to unsubscribe or ask to be removed from any mailing lists too.

I hate to sound like some sort of super enthusiastic American promo speaker, but we’ve got this.

What’s really keeping me going is the financial benefits for my family when I save all the money that I would normally spend and finally pay off debts. Focus on those college fees. Set a graduation picture as your phone background if you need to, to help keep you focused!

I’m so happy to say that I’m about to make it to three weeks gambling free. It’s a small amount of time and yet it feels like such a big achievement.

I’ve barely thought about gambling in this time and each time it has cropped up I’ve taken all the steps necessary to stay away.

I’ve adopted a new approach to my day which seems to be helping. I have a list of about ten things to try and get done. Some are personal, like drinking a certain amount of water and walking a certain number of steps, most are work related. It means that I feel productive every day and that I’m rarely without something to do. Boredom was often a big trigger for me so I seen to have tackled that well.

I know not to get complacent and will forever be grateful for this forum and the support from you all. Knowing I have this place to come and share really does help me to move forward.

So excited to celebrate one whole month without gambling very soon!!

Hope you’re all having a positive day x

    Hi lizbeth,

I was just reading through your posts there and wondered, have you ever come across Dave Ramsey before? He opened my eyes to budgeting and emergency funds and I feel like his guidance may be of some help to you. He has a book but you can also find his tips across the internet and he has a YouTube channel. It is probably worth a look
