Hi Badenbaden and welcome, well done on looking for help. Read the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Filling your time is going to be important. Maybe hobbies and inbterests that have lapsed due to gambling, maybe thigns you have always wanted to try but not got around to. Try new things – some you will like, some you won’t. And some you will love. Fill your time and thoughts away from gambling. Most importantly – keep uysing support; if we could do it on our own then none of us would be here.

Hi daddy23, well done on looking for help. Firstly I need to apologise, it shouldn’t have taken this long to approve your first post here.

Well done on blocking your online accounts. If you can then it would help to be honest with your partner, she could help with one of the other barriers you will reaad about here – accountability.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to, you will also see the success stories and apply the thiogns that are working for others to your own situation.

Using support is important and there is a lot of it available therse dayys – here we have these forums, live groups and a one to one helpline. Elsewhere as well. Keep posting and hopefully I will see you in a group soon.

Hi, taking thigns one day at a time is important – “never again” thoughts can be waaaaay too scary. The urges aren’t the problem – it’s how we act and deal with the urge that is important and you haven’t gamble. Maybe think about banning form that casino, then if the day comes that you do have the time you are less likely to get the urge to go.

You can get that life back Losingitslowly. Plan your gamble free days, fill your time with other things. If I make a plan then I am less likely to procrastinate about the things I tend to put off.

    Hi Losingitslowly,

How about asking your sister to help with accountability? When I first stopped I had all bank statements etc sent to my mum’s address. Knowing that IF I gambled she WOULD know about it was a big deterrent. These days with internet banking we can be pretty much instantly accountable.

Hi and well done n starting your thread here. First of all my apologies, I don’t know what the problem was but it really shouldn’t have taken so long for your post to appear in the forum.

The good news is that you know you can stop, well done on your previous gamble free period. As you have found, there is no return to controlled gambling however long we may have been free from it, the addiction soon reappears.

You returned to gambling when you got bored? Ok, learn form that, fill your gamb le fre time. Find other interests and a variety of them.

You stopped before, this time keep using support and you can be stronger still. Keep posting.

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

    And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
    Take care

Hi Lizbeth, well done on coming back here. The good news is that you know what works. Get back to posting, maybe connect to a group as well. The date of your last bet may have changed, but not what you have learnt in recovery.

    Hi Steph,

I’ve just looked back over a couple of pages and noticed across a few posts….:

“….It has been over a month since I last posted….”

“…..It has been awhile since I last posted….”

“…..It has been awhile since I last posted….”

Now, you KNOW you can stop gambling, you have done it befroe, my advice would be to keep using support to maintain recovery, not just whn you have relapsed and are hurting. That will make thise relapses less likely.

Keep posting, maybe get to GA meetings as well. Lots of support available.

    Hi Sjc,

I saw you post on someone elses thread but I can’t really give you advice there.

You CAN stop gambling. Put the barriers in place, connect to support – here, GA meetigns, whereever. Lots of options around these days. First thing is get those barriers in place. Remember, actions not words.
