Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums. By posting to the forums you’re allowing the diverse and caring Gambling Therapy community to help support you through the difficulties you’re facing.
This may well be a tough time for you – particularly if you’re new to recovery, so we encourage you to post here as often as you need to, as well as making use of the online groups and the live advice helpline if you’d like some one-to-one support. We’re all in this together! If you’re a new member, you are warmly invited to join Charles in one of the New Members Practical Advice groups (Mondays at 21:00 UK Time and Thursdays at 19:00 UK Time).
The forum is a great place to share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. By writing it all down you can start to build a record of your progress that you can look back on – particularly useful if you’re ever feeling stuck. Share as much or as little as you like – but you’re encouraged to stick to keeping to just one thread in this forum – so people know where to find you to check in on your progress or to share something with you.
The Gambling Therapy staff team don’t generally post to the forums as it is a peer support area of the site – so we’ll hand you over to the community from here.
Take care,
The Gambling Therapy Team

charlesModeratorHi and welcome back,
As you have mentioned suicide I am first going to giv you this link: https://www.befrienders.org/ There is always someone you can connect with there.
There is a lot of life after gambling and suicide is a permanent solution to what is a temporary problem.
You have posted here before so will have heard some of this advice before.
Read the otehr stories here, you will read a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
Barriers aren’t the total answer to addiction but they beat the hell out of willpower and gtive you chance to start work on recovery.
Get yourself excluded from whereever it is you usually gamble. If that is online then there are also blockers to stop youy signing up elsewhere. Is there someone close to you who knows about your gambling? Or that it is a problem? They could help you with accountability, limit your easy, instant access to funds with which to gamble.
Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking. Also the things you start doing in your life instead of gambling.
Remember we have groups and 1 – 1 support here as well.
Most of all use support – there is a lot of it around these days, from sites like this to face to face meetigns, to counselling, even zoom support groups. Then keep using it – not just now while you want to stop, but also for continued support to maintain recovery.

charlesModeratorHi Lavende,
You have mentioned suicidal thoughts so the first thing i am going to do is give you this link. https://www.befrienders.org/
If you have those thoughts then there is always someone you can talk to there.
There is a saying that is very true – suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. There is a lot of life after gambling I promise you.
It sounds like you have presented this problem to your husband/family in the past. This time you won’t just be presenting the problem; you can be showing what you are going to DO about it, there is a big difference.
Gambling won’t solvce your problems, it has caused them. Play the tape forward – IF you won then even that wouldn’t solve your problems; it is an addiction and you would just dig the hole again, deper this time because addiction is progressive.
When it comes to your debys, I don’t know what the HR is? Something local to you I am sure.
There are a lot of options around these days when it coees to the finances – from repayment plans through to bankruptcy. Speak to the people you have borrowed from, most importantly they need to know not to lend you any more funds.
You know you can stop gambling, you have done it before. The important thing this time is to keep using support to maintain recovery. We are never “cured” but we can all choose to not act on our addiction and have a great gamble free life.
Keep posting, keep using the support you ahve both here and elsewhere.
Again, there is a lot of life after gambling.
charlesModeratorWell done on your 20 days jerem. Good luck with the job.
charlesModeratorHi Yoyo. If you are wondering if it is an addiction check this link out….. https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/content/20-questions
Those 20 questions are as good a way of determining whether it is an addiction whever ir not you ever go to GA.
I recommend not watching those influences – better to fill time and thoughts completely away from gambling.
Same with those small $20 sites – if you decide that it is an addiction then from experience I can tell you that it is better to starve it completely rather than keeping it ticking over.
Keep posting, let us know how many “Yeses” you score on those questions and hopefully how you are filling your time away from gambling.
charlesModeratorHi DE. My own take on the “Higher Power” comes from the phrase “A power greater than ourselves.”
I couldn’t stop on my own so if nothing was stronger than me on my own what chance did I have? Then I looked around a room of people just like me, none of whom had been able to stop on their own but many of whom now had. My own HP has nothing to do with the G word or any divinity, but I am happy that there was something in that room stronger than myself, it meant I knew I could stop.
Some people get put off by the G word, or use it as an excuse, which is why I posted this version, it never bothered me – I vary between agnostic anbd athiest myself.
BTW I have been to many actual GA rooms and a few of the zoom ones – some are better than others but I can say that no two that I have been to are the same. So if you have just been to the one I wouldn’t rule out getting to another one.

charlesModeratorHi Morriso and welcome to the forum.
Firstly an apology – it shouldn’t have taken this long to approve your first post.
You are right, there are a lot of casinois, especially online. Get excluded from your usual ones then install a blocker for on devices to stop you signing up at others. Here is a link to details of various blockers https://www.gamblingtherapy.org/information/how-do-i-block-gambling-sites/
If you read the other stories here you will also see that financial accountability is also a good barreir – who could help you with that?
Again yes, there is a lot of gambling in Canada but the good news is that there is alos a lot of support available to you. Here is another link where you will find local support. https://www.problemgamblingguide.com/find_help___canada.html
The biggest piece of advice i can give you is to use support – if we could do it on our own then none of us would be here.
Keep posting here, hopefully I wil see you in one of the groups as well.

charlesModeratorHi Gustav and welcome to the forum. First an apology – it shopuldn’t have taken this long to approve your first post.
Now, you can stop gambling/trading I promise you. Just don’t try and do it on your own.
You lose all your money as soon as you get paid? Ok use that awareness. We all know that no money = no gambling, use that now. Read the other stories here – you will see how financial barriers and accountability can help. What things can you put in place before next payday?
Get yourself excluded form your usual trading sites/
I see that there is also a Gamblers Anonymous meeting in your area – check out this link for local support as well.https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/addresses
Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking. I recommend taking those steps before you get paid again.
