Hi Again Oberliner. Have you spoken to your brother about what has happened?

Havign someone hold your money would help you again. It shouldn’t land all the responsibility of paying bills etc on your brothers shoulders though. You can still be responsible for paying bills, setting up direct payments etc All he is doing is keeping you accountable for how you are spending it.As Bettie has said, maybe try GA again. You stopped for 3 years so the good news is you can do it again, this time though don’t try and do it on your own. We need help when we are introuble and want to stop – it’s important to keep using support when in recovery to hep us stay stopped.

    keep posting.

Hi Oberliner, well done on posting.

It sounds like you have been connecting to the “Open Groups”. Unfortunately these are unmoderated groups, it’s impossible 24/7, and yes it’s quite likely that many people connect at different times and don’t actually find anyone there to talk to. All the other types of groups are moderated though, are you able to connect to any of them? There is always someone there for you to talk to.

The one to one helpline is also open during office hours (UK TIME)

This forum of course is also available for support 24/7. I recognise your name so I think you have posted here in the past? If you are unable to connect to the moderated groups then you can get support here. Tell us about your situation, the things you have tried to help you stop etc

Hopefully you will be reading the othe stories here, what are others doing that you can apply to your own situation? A blocker on your PC? Being accountable to someone for your finances? GA meetings?

Keep posting, you have told us how much you are hurting – use that pain, put things in place now while you are hurting so that you will be less able to gamble later when that pain fades and the urges return.

I look forward to reading the steps you are taking and hopefully I will meet you in one of the moderated groups soon.

Hi Honey and welcome to the forum. Well done on taking this big first step. You will get a lot of advice and support here from people with the same addiction. hopefully you are already reading some of the other threads here so you know that you are not alone. You can stop gambling. I’m a Compulsive Gambler myself and if I can stop anyone can!

Can I ask you though to please start your own thread. It’ll be easier for people to give you support once you do that. It’ll get confusing for all here on Hownanans topic.

Just click on Forums, My Journal, then scroll down and click on New Topic. You have made a good post so maybe just copy and paste it onto your new thread.

I look forward to reading your progress.

    Saying goodbyes?
That’s your addiction, telling you lies.

From years of gambling we have both learnt
That on our own we will surely get burnt

Every time we tried on our own
We gambled more and too out more loans

If you’re really removing the disguise
That would be a good move, timely and wise

So where’s the real journal we can all read?
And give you support in your time of need

What real steps are you now to take?
So a lasting recovery you can then make

What’s really different, what’s really new?
What touch actions are you going to do?

If you think you can do it without some support
That’s ignoring the lessons that you have been taught

If you still think gambling is fun
Then what’ve you learnt from all that you’ve done?

No more “bullshit”, deflection and games?
Great, so get typing and tell us your aim

Or maybe you’re going to continue to hide
And listen to your addiction and all of it’s lies

I really hope the answer is no
Vera be honest and give it a go

No more BS you don’t want that
So just get your ar*e back into chat!

    Hi Jen,

God won’t take it away but he has given you the tools to use yourself.

Learn from what’s happened now and in the past – what would have stopped you today? What things can you put in place BEFORE next payday?

You have a good man? Great, how about letting him hold the finances and make you fully accountable for money?

Your addiction won’t want you to do that – do the thigns that will annoy your addiction!

Keep posting and let us know what positive steps you are taking.

    Hi Jack,
Kathryn is right of course. The thread might be new but the advice and questions are the same – what are you going to do to make you less able to place that first next bet?

Irritated and bored? That’s not me
    I’m just here choosing recovery

    No ulitimatums and no bans
All can come here whenever they can

And when they come here I can set them a task
To honestly answer questions I ask

The one I asked I hope you will answer
The Vera I know is not just a chancer

And Vera, while you’re such a good poet
I pose hard questions, and you know it

So read your poem and see what you wrote
If you miss it then maybe I’ll quote

Is your recovery only a “guise?”
    I really hope it’s not a disguise

Is this the right place for you?
Well if not here what would you do?

Reading the forum I see you’ve been busy
Posting all over the place, it’s making me dizzy

The one thing I hope you get in your head
Is posting helps more when on your own thread

Posting there makes it harder to duck
Or justify gambling and trying our luck

The groups now open you can see that
So see you shortly, come in for a chat.
