Happy, why not get a phone that makes calls and texts only? Then a cheap lap top that you know you can get a good blocker for?

Hi Lauren, well done on your gamble free time. I’ve noticed a couple of comments about “the real test being next week when i get paid.”? Use that knowledge Lauren, what things can you put in place before payday so that you are less able to gamble your money? Barriers aren’t the answer to addiction of course but they do give an important breathing space so that we can start work on things.

    Keep posting.

Hi Kurt, well done on looking for help.

When you spoke to Gamcare did you ask them about the counselling they give?

There is a lot of help here in the UK, Gamcare, here, Gamblers Anonymous, counselling and more.

I am sure you will be reading the other stories here? You will see the success stories – what has worked for others that you can apply to your own situation?

Where do you gambler? get yourself barred? Accountability helps – is there someone you trust who could help with that?

Keep posting, hopefully see you in a group here soon as well.

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

    And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

    Take care

    The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our

    Hi Lorraine,

I hope you get to read this before you go into complete hibernation.

Read up, look at how you felt when you came back to post this time. Unfortunately it would likely happen again, it’s a busty forum and threads slip down and people respond to people who are posting.

Look around the forum as well, how many of us are there? Not a single one of us could do this on our own. I hope you speak to your doctor about your depression and get back soon to using the support you and the rest of us need to help with our addiction.

Ok, in a group this evening someone asked “what is recovery?”

Part of it at least is working on character traits we may have picked up in addiction, or indeed had anyway.

When i first stopped gambling i thought that was all i had to do, then I saw this list and realised it wasn’t just my gambling that was the problem – it was me.

Score yourself out of 10 on each line, with both sides adding up to the 10.

When I did it all the high numbers were on the wrong side of the page!!

Recovery isn’t about trying to be perfect, its about gradual improvement. This list helped me see some of the things I needed to work on, then I was able to find ways to gradually improve things, reduce the score on one side and increase the score on the right side.

I’m still not perfect, hopefully i will never think i am! 😉

Hi Magnus. I see you posted and got a little advice a couple of weeks ago now. Did you manage to find that GA meeting? Did you speak to your dad again? He could help with accountability, maybe look after your money for a while so you can’t access it for gambling.

Those “countless friends” you have made through playing poker? If they are true friends won’t you be able to do other non gambling activities with them? I had a lot of “friends” i used to gamble with. Whilst some of them were true friends many turned out to be just gambling acquaintances.

Use the support you have here, keep posting

Hi SJ, hope you are well today. What things did your talk remind you of? What things do you know you need to do to stay gamble free? You can do them, one day at a time. keep posting.
