charlesModeratorHello again AK,
Well done on coming back here.
You posted a similar thread a few weeks ago and got a bit of advice. Were you able to put any of that advice into practise? What things have you red on other threads that you can apply to your own situation?
To keep this thread running just write in the comment box at the foot of the thread; starting a new one each time just gets confusing with advice getting missed/duplicated.
Again I look forward to hearing about some of the positive things you have put in place. You can stop gambling I promise you.
charlesModeratorHi Sammy,
Well done on looking for help. Things might seem hopeless right now but it never is. There is life after gambling. Look around the site, in the My journal Forum you will read lots of stories you will relate to, see the sort of things that have helped others stop gambling and regain control of their livers. You can too i promise you.
Compulsive gambling is an addiction like any other, sometimes there is no understanding it.
You have a lot of support available to you though, sites like this and places like Gamblers Anonymous to address your gambling, financial/debt advice agencies and if you do have further toughts regarding “an accident” there is always someone you can talk to if you look at this link. http://www.befrienders.org/
I’d suggest ypou start your own thread in that My Journal Forum, you will gt a lot of feedback and support from otehr memebers there. Try and be honest with your husband, he needs to know. He can help you restrict your access to money so you can”t gamble. You will see how barriers like this have helped others, you can also get yourself excluded from where ever it is you have been gambling.
There are aslo groups here you can connect to, a helpline if you want to talk to someone on a one to one basis.
You can get passed this, the important thing now is to use the support that is avaialble to you.

charlesModeratorHi Lorraine,
Well done on posting.
“…….me asking for help again tells me ,im scared ……..”
I’m sure it does, what it also tells me though is that you are starting to use support that will help you. I’d say that is a good thing 🙂 There is no need for any of us to try and tackle things on our own, it’s really important to use the support we have available and it’s great to see that you are.
Hopefully see you in a group here soon.
charlesModeratorGreat post Trinity. One day at a time can achieve great things.
charlesModeratorHi Viper.
You do seem to have isolated yourself right now but how about checking out the other support available in the UK? Gamcare, counselling, Gamblers Anonymous, Residential Support?
If you connect to the helpline here which is open during UK office hours you can discuss the support that is available to you.
No, none of us can turn back the clock but we can move forward and rebuild things in recovery.
Hopefully I will meet you in one of the groups here soon.
charlesModeratorWell done Swissguy, If you do get any thoughts of finding other accounts then remember you can get a blocker for your PC that will stop you visiting any gambling site.
Use your awareness, plan your time.

“……control when betting……”
Unfortunately for any compulsive gambler, for anyone who finds the need to come to a site like this one control when betting isn’t an option – if we could find that control then we wouldn’t have a problem.
How about avoiding gambling altogether? What barriers would help you do that? Who could help you with accountability?
We can regain control of our lives – by not betting.
charlesModeratorHi Rick, well done on looking for help. When you read some of the other threads here you will see a lot you will relate to. You will also see the sort of thing that has helped otehrs to stop gambling, which of those things can you apply to your own situation?
Can you get yourself excluded from the racino? How about your father looking after your finances and keeping you accountable so you can’t gamble secretly?
There is a lot of gambling around these days, the good news is that there is also a lot of support around as well. Sites like this, places like Gamblers Anonymous, counselling and more.
As you ahve said, you have the conversations with your father, stop gambling but then return to it. That’s why it’s important that you start putting things in place now before the urges return. Show your fatehr by your actions that you mean it this time.
Keep posting and let us know what positive actions you are taking.

charlesModeratorHi Swissguy,
As you say, things will get better , the pain will fade and that’s when the urges may return. That’s why now, while youa re still hurting is the time to put a few things in place.
Where do you gamble? Get yourself excluded. if it is online then you can get a blocker for your PC. The finances aren’t too bad at the moment? great, will your wife help by looking after them? Help you with accountability?
Things are strained between you right now, there is probably no reason for her to belive any words/promises she hears. So show her by your actions how serious you are. Actions like that will both help you stop gambling and may also help start to rebuild thigns trust wise.
Keep posting and let us know what positive steps you are taking.
