charlesModeratorHi gov and welcoem back.
Well done on your 8 months.
You can stop gambling I promise you.
What were you doing during those 8 months? I’ve not seen a post form you in a while so were you using any other sort of support? 5k is a lot of money to lose of course. It’s also a lot of money for a compulsive gambler to have unaccountable access to. Is there someone who could help you with the accountability so that you can’t access funds to gamble with?
There is a lot of support around these days, both to help us to stop and to help us to maintain recovery. Have you tried GA meetings?
It’s important to put the same effort into our recovery that we put into our gambling. keep posting and let us know what positive steps you are taking.

It sounds like you have tried the “Open Groups”, they are unmoderated and, as you have found, you don’t always find someone there to talk to.
All the other types of group have a moderator so there will always be someone who you can talk to.
Hopefully I will see you in one of those soon.
Keep posting.

charlesModeratorHi November and welcome to the Forum.
Well done on looking for help. I am sure you will have read many stories similar to your own here, you will also have read some of the success stories- what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
You can stop gambling I promise you.
Keep posting and maybe tell us a litle more aobut your situation. I also hope to hear of the positive steps you are taking. There is a lot of support available to us these days, it’s important that we use it.
charlesModeratorWell done on your gamble free time Adam. I’m glad you enjoyed some of the benefits of not gambling.
charlesModeratorHi FG, well done on coming back here and being honest. Also well done on arranging for your husband to meet you on what you know is a dangerous night of the week for you.
I also have to agree with Sad though, she beat me to it!!
Why wait? It’s alsways best to take actions now while you are hurting and don’t want to gamble. We all know that the pain fades, money matters ease and the urges return. Get yourself banned from the casino now and that barrier will then be in place if/when that happens.
It will also be a good way to repay the support your husband is showing, it will show him how serious you are about stopping and give him reassurance as well.
Keep posting.

“It occurs to me that we could do the same . Try to focus on the battles we won. When I look back I always remember the last time I gambled…not the last time I said no….not the last time I won the battle. I have won so many more battles than i have lost…maybe it would help us to remember when we won and how strong we really are?”
I’d say it’s important to use what we have learnt from all our experiences. Our victories, so we can build on them and our defeats so we that we can learn from them and avoid similar in the future. After all when we were gambling we soon blanked out our losses in our minds, only remembered the wins and thought we could win more; it dodn’t do us much good.
Well done on having plans for your increased available mnoney Micky.
