Hi Bettie,
Back to basics maybe? How can you limit your access to gambling funds? Back to posting and groups here, back to GA meetings. One day at a time can change things around Bettie, you have done it before you can do it again.
Keep posting.
charlesModeratorWell done Lizbeth, one day at a time can achieve great things.

A good day in recovery everything goes well and we don’t gamble.
A brilliant day in recovery things go wrong and we still don’t gamble.
🙂 Well done

The good news about Vegas is that, whilst there is a lot of gambling there, there is also a lot of support available to you now you have decided to stop.
For example there are well over 100 Gamblers Anonymous meetings a week in Vegas. You are open to anything? Great then try out some of those meetings. Keep posting here as well of course.
I know there are loads of casinos there but if you have a favourite or ones that you frequent more than others then get yourself banned from those, remove your comfort zone.
You have taken steps to stop in the past? Well done, what were they? How did you get round them? What would make it harder for you to do so?
Is there anyone who can look after your money for you? Someone you can be accountable to?
Keep posting and let us know what positive steps you are taking.
charlesModeratorHi Diamond and welcome to the forum.
I’m sure you will be reading a lot that you can relate to on the other threads here. You will also be reading the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
If you think that five years sounds like a long time to be paying your debts then be honest with yourself – if you carry on gambling then it will be a lot longer.
I loved gambling as well, even now i know that I would love a day at the races, a game of cards with friends. The thing is though that there comes a time when we have to decide on whether what we “love” about gambling is worth the chit that follows; unfortunately we can’t have one without the other.
If you are at the point when you can make that decision then you can stop. You can get yourself banned from the sites that you use, you can get yourself a blocker for your PC so that you can’t visit other sites, you could get to Gamblers Anonymous meetings or other support.
Talk to your Dr, be honest and tell him about the effects those drugs have on you. He could recommend a different treatment.
You are worried about talking to your family? Well this time don’t just give them words and promises, this time show them by your actions how you are going to move forward from this.
You could also get some proper financial advice so that your family don’t have to bail you out. There are a lot of options around these days from bankruptcy to repayment plans with a lot in between. Being bailed out isn’t always the best idea – if my own family were still bailing me out then I’d likely still be gambling.
I hope you find the right answer to that question. Carry on gambling and however bad you think things are right now it will get worse. It’s a progressive problem.
Keep posting and let us know the positive actions you are taking.
charlesModeratorHi xinstory and welcome back.
My own opinion – no, there isn’t a cure, I myself am a Compulsive gambler and always will be. I haven’t had a bet in a while now though and there is no reason that I need to have another bet in the future either. There is no reason you need to place another bet either.
You were here in 2012? I see you were posting back in 2013 as well. What advice were you given then? What things have you read on other threads that you can apply to your own situation?
You lost a lot of money? Then thaty’s one thing you can do straight away. speak to your wife and your dad and make sure you don’t have easy, unaccountable access to funds in the future. We all know that when we lose all our money we can’t gamble. use that knowledge and put some barriers in place between yourself and gambling funds.
Where have you been gambling? Get yourself banned from any “real life” gambling venues that you use, get a blocker for your PC if you gamble online.
What support can you use? If any of us could do it on our own then we wouldn’t have a problem in the first place. You were here in 2012? Then 2013? Well you are here now, this time stick around and keep using support. Why not try GA meeetigns as well?
How to tell your dad/wife? Well there is no reason for either of them to believe a word you say. Like my family they will have heard it all before. Show them by your actions that you mean it this time. Show them this site so that they too can get support in the Friends and Family forum.
Keep posting and let us know what positive actions you are taking.
