    Hi AG and welcome.

As you found last week, finding a temporary solution to money issues isn’t what you need.

You will find that when you stop gambling the finances tend to take carfe of themselves, if they don’t then get proper financial advice.

What you need to do is address your gamblign addiction. Otherwise any financial solution is likely to be short lived.

Read the other stories here, you will read a lot of things you will relate to. You will also see the success stories, what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Use the support taht is out there, keep posting here, get to a Gamblers Anonymnous Meeting. Likely you might meet someone there who has had problems with the same bookie.

Let us know what positive steps you are taking.

    Hi Brian and welcome.

I too would compare this addiction to a love affair. Like most love affairs trying to stay “just good friends” doesn’t work.

Dump her. Delete her mobile and rip up the love letters!

There is a lot of support out there these days, sites like this, GA, counselling, residential support and more.

Keep posting and let us know what positive steps you are taking.

    Hi Jrb and welcome.

You don’t know where to start? Well the good news is that youu have started. You have found support. You are not alone, if any of us could do it on our own then none of us would be here in the first place.

Read the other stories here. You will read a lot that you will relate to I am sure. You will also read the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Is it an illness? Maybe, maybe not. The important thing for me though is that we find the “medecine” that works for us. For me that is Gamblers Anonymous, for others it may be this or similar sites, for others counselling. Maybe a combination of the above.

Keep posting and tell us a little more about your situation. What barriers would make it harder for you to gamble?

    Hi Geordie,

I’m sorry to hear of your current situation. Sorry too to hear of your health issues but extremely pleased and relieved that you found your way out of that coma.

I will ask you the same question that Ii ask others who “……….do the same thing over and over…….”

What can you do differently this time? What barriers can you put in place? What addictional/different support can you use? GA? Counselling? Residential?

You will have picked up many recovery tools over the years Geordie, which ones aren’t you currently using?

Keep posting, maybe see you in a group here soon as well.

Hi Christy, well done on looking for help.

Nevada – lots of gambling for sure, the good news though is that lots of gambling tends to also mean lots of support when someone decides to stop. Someone else has already suggested GA meetings, check out your local ones.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot of things you will be able to relate to, you will also see the sort of things that have helepd others to stop.

In the mornings, when you are determined not to gamble, you can then make the decision to remove the opportunity to gamble later in the day.

You work as a bartender? do you get fed at work? If so then is there any need for you to carry cash or and ATM cards with you when you leave home for work? If you don’t get fed at work then why not just have enough cash to buy your dinner? Better yet take sandwiches with you?

Now, you probably get tips. Again, you can put things in place. They know at work so you could have someone look after your tips for you. You could have a cash tin, with a slot in the top, put your tips in as you go along. leave the key at home and hey, at the end of your shift you ahve no money to gamble with.

Keep reading, keep posting, there are lots of things you can put in place. Let us know the positive steps you are going to take.

Kin, I’m with kathryn on this one. You are a valued member of this site, please make sure you are getting the correct medical advice regarding any health issues.

I’m not a believer myself but if there is a God he gave us the ability and knowledge to develop the medical advances and help that we have. As you are a believer then please don’t ignore that help. HE/SHE put it there for a reason.
