Hi Izzi,
Well done on getting back here. This time I hope you keep posting as you progress with your gamble free time. You always use “CGing” as a verb, which it is of course. CG is also a noun though, WE are compulsive gamblers, we can choose not to act on that addiction though but it is important to use and keep using the support we have availalbe, not just when we are in trouble and wan to stop but also to maintain recovery. Keep posting here, when you get home get back to your counselling, check out a GA meeting etc. Use all the support that is available to you.21 April 2016 at 7:29 pm in reply to: I must of lost 80k in the last 4 years I’m 26 and need to stop #32674charlesModeratorHello JWBluies,
The good news is that you know you can stop gambling. You did it before so you can do it again. You also know what helped before – get back to those meetings. The important thing to remember this time is that if we need help to stop gambling then it is also important to keep using support to maintain recovery. Stay with the meetings, keep posting here as well and you can be stronger still.

charlesModeratorHi Dylan and welcome to the forum.
I am sure you will be reading the other stories here so you will know that you are not alone with this problem. You will aslo have read some of the things that have helped others to stop, which things can you apply to your own situation?
The first thing I would recommend would be to contact your usual gambling sites and ask them to exclude you. Then when you want to stop you can’t change your mind or get tempted by those offers. Once excluded those offers should stop anyway from that particular site. Investing in a gambling blocker, such as Gamblock, will stop you visiting any gambling sites on your PC.
Now you don’t want to lose that £1000? So, who can look after it for you? Make yourself accountable so that you can’t use your money for gambling.
Keep posting here, use the other support that you have available, such as Gamblers Anonymous, Gamcare and more.
Get some of those barriers in place and keep posting here to tell us the positive steps you are taking.

Hello
Thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy friends and family forum. This forum will provide you with warmth and understanding from your peers.
Feel free to use the friends and family group, youll find the times for these if you click on the Group times box on our Home page. Now that you have introduced yourself youll find that many of the people you meet here have already read your initial introduction and theyll welcome you in like an old friend 🙂
If youre the friend or family member of someone who is either in, or has been through, the GMA residential programme please take extra care to make sure that nothing you say in groups, or on our forums, inadvertently identifies that person. Even if your loved one isnt connected with GMA, please dont identify them either directly or indirectly just in case they decide to use the site themselves.
Youll find a lot of advice on this site, some of which youll follow, some you wont…but thats ok because only you fully understand your
situation and whats best for you and the people you love. So, take the support you need and leave the advice you dont because it all comes from a caring, nurturing place 🙂We look forward to hearing all about you!
Take care

15 April 2016 at 6:18 pm in reply to: My fiancé and I both have a gambling problem and we encourage each other #32646charlesModeratorHi Helpmerecover and Carlo,
First of all Carlo, take note of what I’m writing here but then can you start your own Thread please. Then you can both talka bout your own situation and get your own support. Just scroll down to the bottom of the Forum and click on new Topic.
Ok, my advice to both of you would be to concentrate on your own addiction. As the safety talk goes before an aircraft takes off – “Put your own oxygen mask on first, then you can help those around you.”
So, what will stop yopu gambling? Get yourself banned from the casino that you usually go to. That way your partners/friends gambling can’t tempt you as much. You not being able to go might actually start helping them as well. Is there anyone else who can help look after your money for you? At the very least keep it separate and unaccessible to your partner, so that they can’t use your/family money to gamble with. Make it clear that you wil not be paying their share of bills, bailing them out of trouble etc
Use the support that is out there, keep posting here, get to Gamblers Anonymous meetings etc. It will help you and again you might be helping your partner by example.
Keep posting both and let us know what steps you are starting to take to address YOUR gambling. If your partners continue to gamble then there may come a time that you have to make some tough decisions, using support to address your own addiction will put you in a better place to make those decisions.
Again, Carlo, please start your own thread so that you can both get your own support.
charlesModeratorJrb, the best advice for anyone in a hole? Stop digging. You can’t win your way out of this I’m afraid. Gambling is the cause of the problem, not the solution.
You titled this thread “I don’t know where to start”? Well you have had suggestions, ways to stop gambling, places to get support, there are places to talk through your financial options such as the Citizens Advice bureau or StepChange.
So, which options are you going to try before your next bet?
charlesModeratorHi FG, well done on posting about what happened here.
Well done too on having those finacial barriers in place. How about getting banned from that casino to remove the temptation completely?
Hopoefully see you in a group again soon.
7 April 2016 at 7:46 pm in reply to: Lost the remaining money for medical school tuition, can’t finish #32637charlesModeratorHello Thefallenone and welcome to the forum. Well done on looking for help.
Unfortunately no one can change the past, what has happened has happened. Regarding the fees talk to the Medical School and see what options there are.
Yur dreams don’t have to end but you might have to put them on hold while you address your addiction and look to earning money and a credit rating of your own.As you do that it is important to address your gambling addiction, read the other stories here, look at the other support you have available. You will have money again and it is important that you have things in place to prevent you chasing your losses.
You will see the success stories here, what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
Keep posting.
