I would echo moniques thoughts. Whatever any underlying issue may be it would be hard to address it, or even recognise it, while we are still in action.

I would also add that it is important to realise that, whatever might have lead us to addiction, that addiction is now also a problem in it’s own right. If we stop gambling, sort out whatever “caused” our addiction, we would still be compulsive gamblers and unable to return to “normal” gambling. It is a progressive problem with no reverse gear I’m afraid.

    Hi Fritz,

You are talking about how you are spending your life not gambling. About how you are filling your time in recovery. That would never be breaking a rule 🙂

Well done on your gamble free time

    Hi Whatif,

Well done on your gamble free time. Well done on making it clear that you weren’t going to the casino. You will find out who your real friends are and who might have just been gambling acquaintances. A few “I’m not interested” or “I don’t gamble any more” s usually stops the gamblign conversations. Maybe have a word with your brother in law or get your wife to sort out her brother!

Be careful with the drinking. It is easy to swap one problem for another. Also of course alcohol can weaken our defences when it comes to gamblign as well. If you are planning on having x number of beers or staying in the pub for a few hours then go with enough money in your pocket for that number of beers only. It will help you in more ways than one.

Keep posting and again well done on your gamble free time.

    Hi again anhtt,

You wonder what you can say to her? Likely nothing you haven’t said before. There is an old saying “Actions speak louder than words.” What positive actions can you take? What can you do differently to what you have done before?

    Keep posting.

Hello anhtt113 and welcome. Well done on looking for help. Read the other stories here. You will read a lot of things that you will relate to, you will also read the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Payday Friday? So what can you do between now and then that will make you less likely to gamble? Give your paycheck to your wife? Make arrangements so that it is paid into an account that only she has access to? Get self excluded from the casino you plan tp gamble in? Find your local Gamblers Anonymous meeting?

It sounds like your wife will have heard all the promises in the past. No reason for her to believe you mean to stop now really is there? The above actions will both help you stop gambling and also might give her reason to think “Hey, maybe he means it this time”

Keep posting and let us know what positive actions you are taking.

It sounds like you have got soime plans in place regarding the finances. It is important to plan your time as well. Don’t find yourself watching slots on YT or other gambling realted things. As you ahve found, that is always going to make thigns difficult. Keep posting.
