    Hi Valerie and welcome.

A good question. For me the best way to find the answer to this question are the 20 Questions that they have on the Gamblers Anonymous website. here is a link for you to find them:
    http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/content/20-questions

The fact that you are doing something that would risk your job to enable you to gamble speaks volumes. Presumably also something that, if it costs your employers contracts, might also risk colleagues employment as well.

Keep posting and let us know how many “Yeses” you answer to those questions.

To offer an alternative thought, if someone is less than honest about one thing, and people are aware of that, then it does of course give them cause to be wary as to the truth of anything else said.

If you stop then what? Well if you put the same time and effort into life as you do into gambling then the possibilities will be pretty much endless. Sh*t low paid job? Well that can change. One thing you can do straight away though is give yourself the biggest payrise you will ever have – stop gambling!

Another question of course is – carry on gambling and then wat? Because thigns wont stay like they are now, it is a progresssive problem so it gets gradually worse. As Vera rightly said, any wins are gambled back anyway.

As you say – no money = no gambling, now use that knowledge.

You have got some great advice here already, now though you still have to ask yourself those two questions I asked before.

    Keep posting.

    Hi Johnny,

Well done on making the decision to stop again. It sounds like GA helped you before so getting back there will be a good step. Use the support you have here as well and you can be stronger still. Instal those barriers as well of course.

This time when you stop the important thing will be to keep using the support at GA and here to maintain your recovery.

    Keep posting.

    Hi and welcome.

If this site helped before than it can help again. Now, while you are feeling the pain, would be a good time to get some barriers in place. Have you self excluded from your usual gambling sites? Installed a blocker? Put finanacial accountability in place?

Keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.

Now there is the thing. You CAN stop. What you can’t do is to carry on gambling with any sort of “control.”

Take a look at the 20 questions on the GA website. Take a look at the other stories here. If any of us could gamble “normally” then we wouldn’t be here.
Basically you have to decide your own answer to two questions…..

First, is what you like/love about gambling worht the chit that comes with it? Coz we can’t have one without the other.

Second, are you ready to take some of the steps that will help you stop now? Or later when youa re deeper in said chit.

I hope you have the right answers to those questions or you might be in for a whole lot more pain.

Keep posting, maybe let us know how you score with those 20 questions.

Hi Brendan. This is one of your wife’s closest friends and part of her own support network. If, hopefully, your relationship continues then it isn’t just your issue, it is something that effects your both. I know my own wife told her mother, did her mum tell anyone else? Not my business really.

If it comes up in conversation when you visit then my best advice would be to say yes, I messed up but now I am using support to address things.

Keep posting and hopefully see you ina group again soon.
