Hi Jonny, well done on telling your mum. As you say though, it sounds like she has heard it all before?
You have had some good suggestions here and in the group.
It is an old saying, actions speak louder than words. Of the things that have been suggested what are you going to DO to show your mum that you mean it this time?Keep posting.
charlesModeratorThere is a New Members group running right now. Click on “support groups” and you will be able to connect. Hopefully see you there.
charlesModeratorDeep breath Jonny. What’s done is done. It is no suprise that this relapse if the worst yet – it’s a progressive problem.
Now, while you are hurting try and use your pain as a motivation to start doing some of the things that have been talked about here. Start taking some of those positive steps.
charlesModeratorHi addictedbrain and well done on looking for help. Are there any chances? yes every chance. Though of course we have more likelihood of success if we don’t leave it to chance.
You keep getting to 70 days or so on your own? Well done. Now though you have support here, you can be stronger still.
Read the other stories here, you will see the sort of thing that has helped others stop gambling.
This time when you get to that 70 day mark you will still be posting here, importantly your family or future wife can be helping you with barriers, they will be helping you limit your access to cash so that you CAN’T gamble undetected. Between now and then you will have got yourself banned/blocked from whereever it is that you usually gamble.
Keep posting and let us know what positive steps you are taking.
charlesModeratorHave you now closed that gambling account? Have you now made yourself accountable for your cash? Have you now got back to GA meetings? What other positive steps can you take?

charlesModeratorHi Goldenluck, well done on looking for help.
Read the other threads here. You will see a lot of stories similar to your own. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
To answer your question; YES, there is hope for you. What barriers can you put in place? Who cold look after your money for you when you have it?
What support can you use? You are a student so i expect your college/university will have some sort of counselling/mentoring service. Gamblers Anonymous is another good place to go.
Keep posting here. You can stop gambling but it is important that you start putting some barriers in place and use the support that you have available.
charlesModeratorHi Bishal and welcome to the site. Well done on looking for help.
Read the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
You can stop gambling I promise you. The important thing is to use the support that you have available. I see you are in London so as well as this site you will find a lot of Gamblers Anonymosu groups there.
Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking.
charlesModeratorAh, so the question is – are you a “sports fan” or are you a fan of gambling on sports?
I used to think I was a sports fan. Though sometimes I wouldn’t want my team to score unless it was a certain player scoring? Sometimes I would only want them to score a certain number of goals/points? I might want my team to concede? Sometimes i even wanted them to lose?!!
What sort of “fan” was I?
Now I would say that I am a sports fan, i want my team to score, I dont care which player scores and no amount of goals is too many. I never want them to concede a goal.
See the difference?
Whether you are a true sports fan or not is something only you can fid out for yourself. If at the moment though you can’t enjoy watchuing a game without gambling on it then don’t watch. Do’t look at the odds/spread for a game either. Don’t look at results even if all you are thinking is about what you would have bet on.
My life revolved around gambling as well, finding other things to fill time was hard.
Do your family know about your gambling problems? or that you ahve decided to stop gambling? It will be important moving forward that they don’t talka bout any of their own gambloing with you.
I hope those thougths helped, you are not alone in haing gamblign as a large part of your life, it is important to find non gambling activities to fill that void.
keep posting
charlesModeratorHello Batjka, well done on looking for help. Read the other stories here, you will see a lot of things that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
If the one question you have is “Why did it happen to me?” Then you might not find that here. I am a compulsive gambler, my brother can gamble normally. Why me and not him? I have no idea. The important question though, especially at this stage, isn’t the “why?” it’s the “What can I do about it?”
Are you still in the UK? If so then you hae a lot of support available to you when it comes to stopping gambling. Other countries do to.
Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking.

charlesModeratorHi Again Johnny.
You ask a few “Whys?” there. The short answer, as you will have found out from GA, is because you are a Compulsive gambler. Here are another few questions. Have you got back to GA meetings? What barriers can you put in place, now, before the urges return?
Keep posting, you are already getting some good suggestions, let us know what positive steps you are taking.
charlesModeratorHi Lorraine, well done on posting.
If nothing changes nothing changes? True, so the thing you can change this year is to refresh that ban before it expires.
God won’t make it stop, but he has given you an option to take to help yourself stop.
Hopefully see you ina group again soon.
charlesModeratorHi and well done on looking for help. Read the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will realte to. You will aslo see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
It helps to take things one day at a time. One thing jumps out at me though as typical of the thoughts of a compulsive gambler:
“….. and swear off gambling until I am able to pay off my credit cards, nurse my investment portfolio….”
Think about it, you are planning to stay off gambling UNTIL things are ok? What then, go back to gambling and start digging another hole?
Does your mum know that you gambled the investment? Trying to keep losses/debts hidden has sent many person back to gambling.
Keep posting and let us know the steps you are taking. Stay gamble free and you will make that trip to Japan. Gamble free we can do pretty much anything we set our minds to.
