Hi Jaykay,
Well done on your gamble free time.
9 weeks is great but how long did you gamble for? It can take work to regain trust.
There is an old saying – actions speal louder than words. Especially if those words/promises are ones that have been said before.
There was certainly no reason for my family to believe a word that i said when I finally stopped. When I went to GA meetigns though, when I had bank statements sent to my mums address so that they KNEW I wasn’t gambling, well that gave them cause to think that maybe I meant it this time.
Barriers and accountability help people stay gamble free. That is not all they do though. They alos help with trust as parterns/parents can see that we aren’t gambling, have minds put at rest that we aren’t out there maing things worse.
Keep posting and maybe tell us what you can do to show your partner that you mean it this time.
charlesModeratorHi Danny,
Well done on getting back on the programme at Gordon Moody. March will sooin come. What things can you do in the meantime though? What barriers have you put in place that will help you stay gamble free between now and then?
Read the other stories here, what things are helping others that you can apply to your own situation?
Keep posting.
charlesModeratorHello Danny and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care
The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!
charlesModeratorHi Sherrie, good to see your name pop up.
Maybe give us an update in the My Journal Forum? Check out the group schedule and hopefully see you soon.

charlesModeratorHi Lori, my apologies, I had connection problems. I am now in the group if you are still around.
charlesModeratorHi Jonny,
Be careful with those investments.
The broker who made 40% for a few years might not have been the best broker, in the same way that we all had our winning streaks he might just have been the luckiest broker.
charlesModeratorKeep posting JayKay and let us know what those actions are.
Well done on your gamble free time.
charlesModeratorHi Jonnya,
Well done on looking for help.
I hope you are reading the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also read the success stories, what are they doing that you could apply to your own situation?
There is a lot of support available in the UK, here and elsewhere. Gamcare, Gamblers Anonymous, counselling and more.
You feel that you are getting somewhere and then buckle? Well the next time you reach that point you won’t be alone; you can be posting regularly here and/or using other support. You can be banned from your usual gambling sites, have a blocker on your PC/phone. You can have things in place so that you don’t have unaccountable access to funds with which to gamble.
You can stop gambling, keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are going to start taking.

charlesModeratorHi Coaster. How about getting yourself banned from those bookies that you had to walk past? I read on another thread that you have a bookies 200yards away from your house? That should be the first one you exclude from.
Keep posting.
charlesModeratorHi 3raser, well done on your gamble free time.
If Saturdays are particularly difficult for you, with lots of sport and football, tehn it helps to plan your day. Know what youa re doing throughout the day so you dont reach a point where you think “Hmmmm what shall i do now?”
charlesModeratorHi Fmm, well done on your gamble free time.
If/when you are expecting money then try not to just “hope for the best.”
What strategies could you put in place? Who could you be accountable to? How could you reduce your ability to be able to gamble that money?
charlesModeratorGood point. If you do need any photos then I recommend uploading a picture to your PC – then you can print as many as you want fairly cheaply. 🙂
charlesModeratorGood realisation on those scratch cards. It is a gambling addiction, while we all have/had our “favourite drug of choice” if we cut out our usual form of gambling then the addiction will quite happily switch to another form if we allow it.
If that phone number works then please post it here. 🙂
Keep posting.
