    Hi JT,

I don’t know when you are expecting that money is expected to arrive but I would recommend making sure your wife knows about, and that you are planning on letting her have it, it BEFORE it arrives. Then you are less likely to get tempted when it does.

We talk about giving partners etc “control of our money.” In reality we are doing the opposite – by being accountable we regain more control of our money ourselves than we ever had when we were gambling.

    keep posting.

Hi Ed, well done on looking for help. You can stop gambling but you are right, we are never “cured.” At GMA you will get the tools which will help you stop gambling and lead a gambl free life, if you apply them moving forward.

By using the support you have here and at GA you can then maintain your recovery and continue your progress.

If GA helped you befroe then I hope you are getting back to meetigns while you wait to get your place at GMA.

    Keep posting.

Hello rdlac and welcome to the site. Well done on looking for help.

You are not alone with this problem; read the other stories here and you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Speak to your aunt, speak to your friends. They might have heard all about your problems before but this time you can show them what you are going to do to help solve the problem. The system is showing me that youa re in Russia? When you do have money who can hold it for you so that you can’t gamble it? Where do you normally gamble? Is it somewhere that you can get benned from?

You can stop gambling I promise you. there is a lot of life after we stop gambling. Keep posting.

Спасибо, что разместили эти SJ. Какими бы ни были наши убеждения, для нас есть 12 шагов. Значение ступенек – важная вещь.

Thanks for posting those SJ. Whatever our beliefs there are a 12 steps for us. The meaning behind the steps is the important thing.

    Hi Dan,

Ok, so you have a lot of casinos in your vicinity. As you mention one specifically though is that a regular haunt? Just getting banned from there would remove one “comfort zone”.

I have another “Why?” for you. Why can’t you speak to someone you trust? From what you have said then I assume they know about past problems? They will have heard it all before? Well this time you won’t be just presenting them with the problem. this time you will be showing them what you are going to DO to deal with it and address things.

There are things you can put in place regarding the finances. I know many people who work with cash. There are still several barriers/deterrents that help though.
The good news about Vegas is that I think you have in excess of 140 GA meetings available to you, lots of gambling venues also means lots of support.

Vera is right, forget 12 Steps, you only have to look at Step One right now.

Get a cash boix. You only need to keep a certain amount as a “float”, put excess cash in the cash box as you go along. The cash box should have a slot in the top and the key should be left at home, maybe with the family member you are honest wiht. That way you can’t get tempted on the way home.

Another method might be to text someone every few hours, let them know how much money you have in the till. Again, they should expect to see the money/bank receipt when you get home.

We put a lot of effort and thought into our gambling, we can put the same efort and thought into recovery, keep posting.

Hi JayKay, well done on your gamble free time. You are right, recvoery can give us a lot of great things. It is important to recognise though that it also puts us in a better position to deal with the unexpected bills or problems that life throws at us.

    Well done and keep posting.

    Hi JT,

I thought I would post on here again as it has your original story.

I see you have started several threads. I would recommend just sticking with the one. that way peole know where they can give you feedback and support. It also means that your story is all in one place for you to look back on as you progress in recovery. Sadly having several threads started means that most will sink without a trace.

To keep a thread running just post in the box at the bottom and clikc on save.

You might want to copy and paste your other posts here as well so that you have everything in the one place.

Good luck in recovery, one day at a time.

    Maybe copy

Hi, well done on looking for help.

Read the other stories here. You will see a lot that you will relate to, you will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Accountability helps, I am sure that your fiance will be able to help you with that if you ask him.

When you leave the house jsut have the moeny on you for whatver you plan to do. No “just incase” money. that will mean that gambling will have an immediate consequence in messing up your plans, “just in case money” allows us to gamble and not regret it until later.

Gambling may be everywhere these days, support is as well though. Sites like this one, places like Gamblers Anonymous, counselling and more. Use the support, if we could do it on our own then none of us would be here.

Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking and how you are going to be filling your gamble free time.

Good move on getting excluded from those bookies. Leaving your carda t home as well. If you work in an office the really you only need to have enough money on you for lunch, better yet take sandwiches.

Plan your breaks though, maybe take a book to work. keep posting and let us know how you are going to fill your gamble free time.
