have you been reading the other stories here? You will see a lot of things that you will relate to, you will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

You will do whatever it takes to stop? Great because it is our actions that help us stop. get yourself banned from that casino. How can you limit your unaccountabel access to the sort of funds that you currently have unaccountable access to? have you heard of Gamblers Anonymous? Check out your local meeting.

Keep posting here and let us know the positive actions that you are starting to take.

    Realquiet..

You have been here just a few days, I’d recommend giving it a chance.

Have you been reading others threads? Have you posted support to any of the other new members here on their threads?

When you have been reading other threads what things have you seen that you can apply to your own situation?

Have you connected to any of the groups yet? The “open” groups are unmoderated so you wouldnt be guranteed to find someone there but ALL the other groups will have a facilitator and you are guarnteed to find someone to talk to.

You first “first day” ended with a 2 k bet. that is a lot of money for a compulsive gambler to have access to. What things can you put in place to make you less able to easily access money like that to gamble with? I’m assuming it was online so have you installed a blocker on your PC yet? Restricted access on your phone?

You posted that by the end of the day all you wanted to do was bet on the NBA games. Don’t watch those games, don’t look at teh odds/spread etc. What can you do to fill your time and thoughts away from gambling and those games?

Lastly, while I hope you continue to post here, if you do decide to leave the site then please use other support, get to gamblers Anonymous or somewhere similar. If we could do it on our own then we wouldn’t be here in the first place.

Hopefully you will continue posting and tell us the positive steps you are taking to avoid your next bet. Maybe I will talk to you ina group here soon.

Hi Mav, well done on coming back here.

What is wrong with you? You have an addiction?

What will help? Well the things which helped you stop gambling before. You can do it again. This time though remember to keep using support to maintain recovery.

Back to basics, keep posting, get to groups.

The debts need to be addressed. You are in teh UK so you have lots of options. Talk to Stepchange or the Citizens Advice Bureau and they will help you get to a manageable position financially.

Of course sorting the finances out is of little use if we carry on gambling so let us know the positive steps youa re taking, teh barriers you are putting in place.

    Hi RealQuiet,

Well done on looking for help. Read the otehr stories here, you will see a lot of things that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

If you gamble online then you can get a blocker for your PC which will stop you visiting all gambling sites. Financial accountability also helps.

Keep posting here, keep reading. What positive steps can you start taking?

    Hi Addi

“The worst day ever for a gambler is pay day …….”

This is where barriers help, acccountability.

If you can put things in place so that you can’t access your funds to gamble with then pay day just becomes like any other day.

What other barriers can you put in place?

    Hi FishFace.

When you have a look at those finances then be honest with yourself. If thigns are manageable then great, if not then get some proper advice. You are in the UK so you can get free expert advice at either the Citizens Advice Bureau or at Stepchange. Lots of options around these days and they will help you get to a manageable place.

Well done on opening up to your friends. ber a little careful with the drinking, just carry the moeny for what you plan on drinking – alcohol can weaken anyone’s gambling defences.

Hi Addi just a quick one as i have to go to work myself. Don’t carry money and leave your cards at home. Just have enough money on you for lunch and drink, better yet take sandwiches. Stay strong

Hello cityeagle, welcome to the forum and well done on looking for help.

As you hae been reading the other stories here you will have seen many similar to your own. You will also have seen teh success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Their is a lot of gambling in Autralia – the good news is that there is also a lot of support available to you as well. here, places like Gamblers Anonymous and more. Your University no doubt has a “Student Services” of some sort which will likely be able to provide counselling/mentoring and sign post you to other support as well.

What barriers can you put in place? You family and/or girlfriend could help with those.

Keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.
