    Hi Lost,

Check out the My journal Forum, you will read many things that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

If any of us could do this on our own then we wouldn’t be here in the frst place. When you are ready maybe start your own thread in the My Journal Froum and you can start getting support more specific to your own situation. Alternatively pop into one of the groups here (all have a moderator apart from the Open Groups) or if you prefer connect to the one to one helpline.

I look forward to hearing how you are getting on.

    Hi Micky,

Where are you keeping your kitty?

Your gamble free time will add up and if/when any urges return you don’t want a big jar full of £ coins easily accessible.

    Hi Thara,

Here is a link that will help you find the GamblersAnonymous meetings in your area.

    http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/addresses?page=1

If you are planbning to transfr the money to your husbands account then tell him now. Once the money is in your own account then that is when the urges are likely to return.

    Keep posting.

Hi Hoojafudge, well done on looking for help.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot of stories similar to your own. You willalso see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation? Getting a blocker for your phone would be a good first step.

If you are still online and reading now then I hope you can connect to the New members group which starts at 9pm (UK time).
Hopefully I will see you there or in one of the other groups soon.

    Keep posting.

Hi 0bryc30, well done on looking for help.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot of things that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Well done on not visiting the casino in the last month, you will read how important barriers are so I would advise getting yourself excluded from your usual/local casinos.

If you are able to ask your Aunt for help then you can also ask her for support in tackling this problem. She can help you with accountability and financial barriers so that you can’t access funds with which to gamble.

She isn’t your “only hope” though, there are a lot of financial options these days – from repayment plans through to bankruptcy. There are also a lot of advice agencies around, many of them free, to help get things to a manageable position.

Use the support that you have, keep posting here, check out your local Gamblers Anonymous meetings.

keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.

    Hi Thara,

Well done on looking for help.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot of things that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Well done on closing those sites but, as you have found, there are a lot more out there. How about getting a blocker for your home PC? Gamblock.com is one though there are others.

Your husband knows about the problem, even if he doesn’t understand it. Ask him for his support. It sounds like you have easy access to funds with which to gamble? He could help you restrict that access, help you with accountability.

If he is working away then you certainly don’t need complete access to the household funds/savings.

What to say to him? Well it sounds like he will have heard most things in the past. So this time don’t just present him with the problem, show him what you are going to DO about it.

Show him this site, we have a Friends and Family Forum as well. Ask him to set the passwords on the blocker you are going to get, ask him to keep money in an account that you can’t access. It is an old saying – actions speak louder than words so show him what actions you are going to take.

    Keep posting.

Hi Jonny, well done on your gamble free time?

What are you finding hard about the debts?

Are you trying to pay them of too quickly, and leaving yourself with little to live on? This can be dangerous as it is important to see the benefits of not gambling. Sometimes it is better to take a little longer to pay then off and leave ourselves enouth to see those benefits.

Is the total debt a bit scary? Then it helps to work out a manageable and sustainable reapyment budget and then just focus on the weekly/monthly amount. less daunting and less likely to give us those urges.

    Hi BlueElvis and welcome back.

As the saying goes – if nothing changes then nothing changes.

So, what can you change? We do all know what happens on payday -that can change. Who could you transfer your wages to when you get paid? How can you make yourself accountable so that you can’t easily access funds with which to gamble? Where do you gambles? What exclusions or barriers can you put in place?

What support cvan you use? There are a lot of GA meetings in the UK, have you been to a meeting?

Why does this addiction have such a hold on you? Because it’s an addiction. Why you and not others? No idea.

The thing is of course that one of the reasons we want to know the “why” is that we think we can sort the “why” out and carry on gambling. That’s how sneaky this addiction is.

The why isn’t important – the important thing is what are you going to DO about it?

Keep posting and let us know the positive actions you are going to take before payday.

Hello Sharins, well done on looking for help.

Also well doen on the steps that you have taken so far Do you gamble elsewhere? While the online slots might eb the current problem it is a GAMBLING addiction. I would recommedn avoiding all forms of gambling or the addiction is likely to switch how it gets its s fix.

    Keep posting.
