Well done on your gamble free time Jonny. Mr Exon, welcome to the Forum and well done on getting help at Gordon Moody. Maybe scroll down to the bottom of the forum and click on New Topic, you can start your own thread and get support here as well. My own opinion is – no such thing as an “ex addict.” I am an addict who is choosing not to act on his addiction. Keep posting both.

    Hi Josh,

Well done on looking for help.

First things first – make sure that you check out the support that is here for YOU. Take a look at the Friends and family Forum. We also have live groups as well – one solely for Friends and family, others that are accessible by all.

Your fiancee can also get support here, show her the other stories in the My Journal Forum.

How about financial barriers and accountability? You could look after those checks so that she can’t use them at the casino.

Using support is also important – it’s an addiction and if we could do it on our own then we wouldn’t have a problem in the first place. Will she post in the my Journal Forum? Will she go to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting?

Make sure you check out the Friends and family Forum yourself as well.

    Hi Just26,
Where do you go from here? Carry on and finish the things you were doing. Have you finished excluding from all sites now?
What financial barriers can you put in place before payday?

    Keep posting.

Oi Adele. Uma alternativa seria ir para a programação do grupo e clicar em "Ver como lista", você também poderá clicar nela.

Ok, well it is a worldwide problem and there is also a lot of gamlbing in the UK. There is also a lot of support as well, sites like this, places like Gambles Anonymous where you can go for support as well. I see there are GA meetings in Sofia as well if you are near there.

    Keep posting.

Hi zdravko, well done on looking for help.

You are not alone with this problem. Read the other stories here and you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also
see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Be careful of those “Def done with gambling….” thoughts. Most of us have had those thoughts but money becomes availabel again and the urges return. Using support here and elsewhere will help.

Which country are you in? There are a lot of financial options around these days, from bankruptcy through to repayment plans, with a lot in between.

Let us know what country you are in and we might be able to point you in the direction of some proper financial advice.

    Keep posting.

Hi Darren, wll done on your gamble free time. I would echo Vera’s comments on testing yourself – Nothing much to gain and a hell of a lot to lose.

Well done on booking that holiday, it is all part of seeing the benefits of not gambling.

    Hi TFRFOS,

You can stop gambling, get to those GA meetings, get yourself banned from whereever it is you normally gamble, make yourself accountable so that you can’t access funds as easily as you have been.

I am going to comment on your debts. Is having to pay 80%+ of your wages sustainable? I don’t need to know the figures but i always say that if paying something off in 3 years means living like a hermit then we are better to pay them off in 5 years and start to see some of those non gambling benefits. If thigns aren’t manageable/sustainable then I would advise you to get some proper financial advice. The Citizens Advice Bureau or Step Change will give you that advice and they are free.

    Keep posting.

Hi RC, well done on looking for help.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories; what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

As others have already suggested, you can get yourself banned from your usual/local bookies.

Making yourself accountable so that you can’t access funds to gamble with helps as well.

Keep reading, keep posting. What positive actions can you take BEFORE your next payday?

    Hi I did it.

Well done on having those barriers in place.

What plans can you have in place before next weekend so that your time and thoughts are tied up elsewhere? So that you won’t be able to spend that amount of time trying to cicumvent your barriers but have other interests to enjoy?

Keep posting, hopefully see you in a group soon.

take a deep breath RealQuiet. You can stop. You just need to do some of the things your addiction doesn’t want you to do. Have you closed that gambling account yet.

Every morning you wake up and promise yourself that you won’t gamble? Great, then remove the opportunity to gamble.

There is an old saying – actions speak louder than words, I too made those no gambling promises, sometimes i even meant them! it wasn’t until i started taking actions though that I was successful.

So what actions can you take? Close that account? Restrict your access to funds, as I did it suggests? Get to a Gamblers Anonymnous meeting?

I know the debts will be overwhelming but there are a lot of optiuons around these days regarding the finances. Options from repayment plans through to bankrunptcy, with a lot in between. Get local expert advice and you will be able to get those finances to a manageable position.

I am sure there would be someone at your local GA meetign who would have had to sort finances out as well, it comes with the territory! They could point you in the right direction to get that advice.

A question I always ask in groups is – what can you do differently? It usually turns out to be something our addiction doesn’t want us to do.

Read the other threads here, you will see the sort of things that have helped others stop, which of those things can you apply to your own situation?

Keep posting and let us know what actions you are taking to make your next bet less likely.

Hello Just, well done on looking for help so quickly.

You are not alone with a gambling problem; read the other stories here and you will see many similar to your own. You will also read the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

You are naturally in a lot of pain right now – use that pain. The money hs gone but put as many thigns in place now, while you are hurting and don’t want to gamble, then you will be prepared if/when any urges return.

Get a blocker for your PC and phone. Put some financial barriers in place so that your access to funds is limited in the future. Talk to your partner, they can help with some of those barriers.

It is never easy to tell partners etc but what does make it a little easier is to not just present them with the problem – show them by your actions what you are going to do to tackle it.

You can nip this in the bud but there is no return to “normal” gambling I’m afraid. No return to those fun £5 bets.

Try and connect to the groups here as well. The next one satarts shortly and there will be someone to talk to right up till 10pm this evening (UK time)

You can stop gambling I promise you, there is lots of help available these days.
