Предположительно, поскольку вы здесь, эти «стратегии» не всегда бывают успешными? Я надеюсь, что вы начнете свою собственную ветку на форуме «Мой журнал», чтобы получить поддержку в своем желании бросить азартные игры.

Presumably as you are here those “strategies” are not always successful?

I hope you start your own thread in the My Journal Forum so that you can get support in your desire to stop gambling.

The subject of Christmas came up in the Topic group the other week. The Topic was Triggers.

    Triggers caused by Christmas included:

Needing money for presnts and visiting/buying drinks etc
    Receiving cash as presents
    Free time over the holidays
Having to spend time with relatives we might not actually like much
Being stuck in the house for several days with family who we might usualy only see for a few hours each day.

These things are going to happen so we can plan for them. Plan our time, have barriers and support in place etc

There were positive comments about Christmas as well. It does highlight the difference between then and now. We can enjoy it for the right reasons no as opposed to the gambling that comes with the sports happening over the holiday period.

For anyone new to recovery or who is struggling then with only a couple opf weeks to go this Christmas might not be the best one. It is what you do now though which will determioe what future Christmases are like.

    Hi Rainman,

I have looked at your previous thread…. that one referred to ones before that as well.

Maybe you should revisit them yourself – what advice did you get then?

I would agree with Laura about the xanax – get proper medical advice.

“I typically post something here or on other forums when i hit some kind of low and browse a couple days and …….”

Then learn from that – take steps NOW, get to GA and back to NA NOW. Do it now before the pain fade, then keep doing it.

If we need help to stop gambling then we should also use support to maintain recovery.

O hope you keep posting here but if you disappear and then return in a few months then I also hope you maintian this thread rather than start a new one – that way you will already have the advice in place.

Noooooooo. You know my favourite word IDI – PLAN. 🙂 Waiting and seeing gives us the option to gamble. Planning and barriers keeps us safer

Ahhh, but shopping, Xmas or otherwise, never stopped either of us losing our money in the first place.

    Hi Semaj,

Well doneon staving off those urges.

What can you do before payday? What barriers can you put in place so that your wages will be less of a temptation for you? Get those barriers in place and payday just becomes like any other day.

    Keep posting.

    Hi P,

For me gambling involves a stake that might be lost and the possibility of a win in exchange for putting that stake at risk. That wouldn’t be the case of course with the free slots. This is why buying a lotto ticket or whatever is classed as gambling – it involves that stake/possible win.

I agree with what others have said though, things like this are highly dangerous for a CG. If we think of the addiction as a monster asleep in the corner this would be the equivalent of poking it with a stick – sooner or later it’ll wake up and bite our ass!

Also, as you have seen, it tends not to be a positive move for gamblers. If we zone out on the free slots then we are as absent from family/life as we are when gambling. If we are escaping from issues on the free slots then those issues are will be just as unaddressed as they were when we were gambling. Finding a variety of positive ways to fill our time is a much better option.

    Hi IDI,

If you get it then good luck to you. The important thing to say here though, or on your other thread, isn’t whether you get it or not. I hope to hear how you are going to make sure you keep it safe when you do get it. Unexpected/extra money etc can be dangerous for a gambling addict, Ii hope you plan what you are going to do with it.
