Then speaking to your family and accountability would help. When I first stopped I had bank statements etc sent tomy mum’s address – KNOWING she would find out if i gambles was a big deterrent.
Now you have cut off the online gambling then the “real life” casinos etc are going to become more attractive. i would recommend asking them to exclude you as well.
charlesModeratorHi Unlucky and welcome to the site. We aren’t “unlucky” though, we are addicted. We can make the choice to not place that next bet though. I hope you start your own thread in the My Journal Forum. it is the most used forum and you can get a lot of support and feedback there.
charlesModeratorI think the biggest argument, for me, about not doing the lottery would be the fact that it seems to be clear, both from the Forums and the GA meetings that I go to, that those who avoid all forms of gambling have a far higher chance of success. If we dont feed the “monster” then it is less likely to wake up and bite our ass!
This would apply to the lottery and any other form of “safe” gambling.
charlesModeratorHi Rayman,
What other barriers can you put in place? You seem to have access to quite a lot of money with which to gamble? Who could help you with accountability?Keep posting.

charlesModeratorHi Daniel,
PersonallyI would recommend again the “paper trading” it would be a bit like a horse gambler picking horses without placing a wager; it just teases the addiction.
charlesModeratorHi Daniel, well doen on recognizing the problem.
You have already got some great advice. It is a gambling addiction; your addiction found it’s “drug of choice” in the markets.
You can get passed this in the same way that any otehr gamblign addict can – by using support. Keep reading and posting here. Look at the other support you have available, places like Gamblers Anonymous etc.
Keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.

charlesModeratorHello
Thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy friends and family forum. This forum will provide you with warmth and understanding from your peers.
Feel free to use the friends and family group, you’ll find the times for these if you click on the “Group times” box on our Home page
Read about the friends and Family Online Groups
Now that you have introduced yourself you’ll find that many of the people you meet here have already read your initial introduction and they’ll welcome you in like an old friend 🙂
If you’re the friend or family member of someone who is either in, or has been through, the GMA residential programme please take extra care to make sure that nothing you say in groups, or on our forums, inadvertently identifies that person. Even if your loved one isn’t connected with GMA, please don’t identify them either directly or indirectly just in case they decide to use the site themselves.
You’ll find a lot of advice on this site, some of which you’ll follow, some you won’t…but that’s ok because only you fully understand your situation and what’s best for you and the people you love. So, take the support you need and leave the advice you don’t because it all comes from a caring, nurturing place 🙂
We look forward to hearing all about you!
Take care

22 March 2018 at 10:12 pm in reply to: 12 врат восстановления дзен / 12 шагов анонимных игроков #130803charlesModeratorЯ надеюсь, что вы начнете свою собственную ветку на форуме My Journal, там вы сможете получить большую поддержку.
charlesModeratorHi Lilyanna, well done on looking for support. I can relate to your comments about lies and manipulation – in the past it would have been me doing tyhe lying and manipulating. My mum too came to her breaking point which was lucky for both of us. If she had still been bailing me out then i would still be gambling. You can get a lot of support here, I am sure Velvet will welcome you and I hope you mange to connect to one of her Friends and Family Groups – there is one at 10pm this evening (UK time). There is also a Drop in Group that is currently running.
You son has a lot of support if he wants to stop gambling – here, other sites, Gamblers Anonymous and more. So now is the time for you to focus on YOU and use the support that you have. Enjoy the holiday you have booked, you deserve it. I look forward to reading how you are doing and I hope you are able to connect to one of those groups.

charlesModeratorHi arov, well done on looking for help. Well done on geting yourself banned from that site. Remember though that it is an addiction – in 2019 you will still be a compulsive gambler, still be unable to gamble “normally” or under control. You aren’t a fool, you are an addict. Read the other stories here, look at the things that are helping others and apply them to your own situation. It is important that we use support – if we could do it on our own then we wouldnt have a problem in the first place. Keep using that support to maintain recovery as well. Keep posting and let us know the positive steps you are taking, the things you are doing to replace gambling.
