So today is day 2 of my road to recovery. I didn’t post yesterday on my first day because I wasn’t sure if I had the confidence to post this. I’ve found the courage from looking through others Journals- thanks for that. I’ve been gambling for as long as I can remember… I remember the day I placed my first bet. Cheltenham festival 2010 aged 16. What I thought was a bit of fun with the lads turned out to be something that has plagued my life for the last 7 years. I’ve been addicted to betting on everything from roulette to scratchcards football bets to virtual horses. Anything I could get a thrill from I would lay money on. After many failed attempts to give up this is what i hope to be the beginning of the rest of my life. I first found this site 3 months ago. I thought I was looking for help when in reality I was looking for somebody else’s addictions story to make myself feel better about what I had done. After multiple large losses over the last 3 months and many days spent living off free coffee from the canteen in work I’ve decided to put an end oi this chapter of my life
I have never really been good at opening up to anyone and very few people know the extent of my addiction. I’m really hoping this journal can help me beat this addiction.

      Congrats on your first post!

There is a great group tomorrow for new people to the site. I’ve been trying to make them and would recommend that you do too. Some great advice.

Hello Shane and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team
