I am desperate to try something different. Before a week ago I had not been to a casino In 2 months. I was doing good I guess keeping busy and saving money. My co worker who apparently has a problem too asked me to run to the casino with her on our lunch. She had hit for $1000 the night before. I left my atm card in my desk but had $140 on me. I figured I’ll just play that and I’m done. Well my friend lost the entire $1000 and I lost my $140 in a matter of 1 hour. After work I got more money and went back. I hit for $1500. I left after several hours with $1000. I went back the next day and the day after and gave back the $1000 plus an additional $400. A family member asked if I would take her (elderly) she gave me $200 plus i had $100. The $300 was gone in less than 2 hours. The next day was payday. I was off that day. I went to the casino and lost my entire paycheck. Allllllllll of it. I went home feeling ashamed of myself. I couldn’t tell my husband…not even my best friend. I felt stupid. I searched for hell help and found this app. I really hope it helps me.

Thank you for commenting. For 2 months I didn’t go, however I thought about all the time. I was able to save money and get things I wanted and needed. I printed papers out that would voluntarily sign myself out. I kept them and never turned them in. I told my running casino buddy I signed myself out so don’t ask me to go. She stopped asking, so I didn’t go. I would think about the money I was saving and was proud of myself. I kept telling myself I’m not giving my money away anymore. It worked for awhile. Now I’m in the process of REALLY sending in the paperwork to sign me out.

Hi Anigdavis – sorry to read about your losses, but I guess you know that it means that you cannot gamble “normally.”
Self exclusion will help to put a barrier in the way, as will carrying very little cash or cards with you – just enough for day to day needs – but these are just barriers, the urges to gamble will come back and you will need to be strong. Try and get as much help and support as you can. Talk to supportive friends or (if available in your area) contact a self-help group like GA. There you will not be judged but you will be heard. Don’t feel ashamed – you have a problem, like some people have a problem with peanuts – you have to avoid gambling – or it will take everything you have. It can be tackled – I have been gambling free for several years so it can be done. Keep strong and get support. I wish you well.
