My last post was about 4 years ago. It is so painful but I am back again. What has changed in those 4 years of my life completely NOTHING. Still gambling every penny I have. Paid my IVA off about 1 year ago but still in debt somehow. Payday comes and we all know what happens on that day. A nice kind of happiness knowing we have some money to bet with .But we all know where that leads us too or we would not be here. I have the money in my pocket but my thoughts before I have even had a bet is that I have lost it already. My frame of mind is so negative but I do not know how to change it. Gambling has been hanging a round my neck like a noose for so long. So many thoughts in my head now. Lost almost my whole months wages yet again and for what. I wish someone could tell me why this addiction has such a hold of me.

Hi BlueElvis and welcome back.
As the saying goes – if nothing changes then nothing changes.
So, what can you change? We do all know what happens on payday -that can change. Who could you transfer your wages to when you get paid? How can you make yourself accountable so that you can’t easily access funds with which to gamble? Where do you gambles? What exclusions or barriers can you put in place?
What support cvan you use? There are a lot of GA meetings in the UK, have you been to a meeting?
Why does this addiction have such a hold on you? Because it’s an addiction. Why you and not others? No idea.
The thing is of course that one of the reasons we want to know the “why” is that we think we can sort the “why” out and carry on gambling. That’s how sneaky this addiction is.
The why isn’t important – the important thing is what are you going to DO about it?
Keep posting and let us know the positive actions you are going to take before payday.
