Sixteen years off a bet today, my friends. It all began in GA, Quex Road, Kilburn, London on a Saturday afternoon. I had
avoided the temptation to bet the previous day, a first day of not gambling in a long time and I made it to this meeting.
I lived in GA for those first few years and today my life is unrecognisable. Today in the papers I read the brief account of a well known
footballer’s descent into the abyss of compulsive gambling and I could identify with everything he described. Life is by no means
perfect but that in itself is merely a high class problem in the absence of an active gambling addiction. If you are thinking about quitting
or in your early days let me offer you hope and happiness. There is a way out from under and there can be light -

Congratulations. I read that article aswell. I have read of a lot of footballers with the same problem seems to be mainly because of boredom on away trips.

16 years is a wonderful achievement.
I am several years without a bet but I neglected to note down the date of my last one – so can’t say how long it is – but it is not as long as 16 years (maybe 10?) due to stupid lapses.I too lived in the GA rooms for a number of years until I was able to stop – and for several more after.
I recently (a year ago?) Decided to post on here to show people that long term freedom from gambling is possible and to give hope especially to those who feel they are still struggling 2 or 3 years after their last bet.
So well done – and I hope that you feel you can stick around to give encouragement to others struggling with this behaviour.
