I been here so many times before
I usually come here after a heavy loss
I want to stop gambling but I never do
The remorse and depression I feel now dissolves
I need to stop for my family but I don’t
I need to stop for myself but I can’t
I need to replace gambling with a hobby
I feel like I work for the bookies & online casinos
I live in a society that encourages gambling
I have no friends my family are hanging by a threadToday I start my journal I hope it will be wonderful like a 5k win & a massive adrenaline rush followed by a crush & a feeling of uselessness I actually hope it’s a feeling that normal people experience
I guess time will tell I guess it’s easy to say I’m stopping gambling today
It’s easy to say I have self excluded from all of the casinos & bookmakers I used to visit? But when the depression & anxiety kicks in what then ? What do the experts tell you then ? I guess the reality is you are on your own your choice your decision your life – but life’s not that simpleTo be continued

I can relate TE. We can do this. We just have to put the energy we put into gambling into whatever it takes to stop the madness.

Low points do kick in. I’ve not gambled for 8 years or so and I still get low at times. What helps is remembering that I’ve been there before and that these feelings pass. What also helps doing things that will lift your spirits – whatever that is for you. For me it is music and certain comedies – but we are all different.
No friends must be difficult for you and I would suggest that you look for ways to make some contact. As gamblers we are not good at friends because we feel shame at what we do. When I was gambling, I would not let anyone come to my place because of the mess it was in due to a) all my money going into slots and b) spending so much time gambling and earning the money to gamble that there was no time for housework.
I made friends slowly through taking courses so that I met the same group of people every week. Do something that would really interest you – it needn’t cost a lot and might even be free in some cases. Also consider voluntary work?
Thank you for posting and I wish you well. -

Hi TE.
Gambling takes people from our lives – we can rarely afford to go to a get together after work or for a meal to catch up with friends and eventually they think we are uninterested.Well done on starting a journal and indeed your journey to freedom from gambling

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care
