I am posting for those who knew i was asked to give a speech to an intensive outpaitent facility in regards to addiction. I am plased to say
that it went well. I was nervous before hand but once i started talking i did ok. I talked about my compulsive gambling and where
it brought me. Then i mentioned the tools that i use and how they helped my stay away from the casinos. I also used an old stand by joke
about how i got a free blanket from the local casinos but that it only cost me ten thousand dollars. Of course, i said that it was a serious
disease. Thanks for reading my posts

That’s really great SJ- it is great that you had the courage to expose your thoughts like that . It is great that you had the confidence to present them in a speech and it is truly great that you have helped others by sharing your own success against this horrible compulsion . I am so proud of you my friend !

Takes a lot of courage to share your story and to do it at the front of a room takes more. Thanks for sharing your successes. It helps other know there is hope of living well even with this addiction. Be proud. Well done. Take care!

I think you will feel better now that the speech is done. I don’t mean from relief that it is done, but how much it helps to talk about it.
I find myself talking about my issue more than I probably should. My co-workers / friends are a group of free wheeling guys who gamble because it is the “norm” for our type (we are all in sales, and thrive on the highs and lows)….I simply explain that I can’t join them because I have liked it too much, and too often… It starts dialogue, and I have yet to feel judged….Just the opposite has happened actually, is several of them have applauded me for addressing the problem, even “joking” that they should quit too.
I don’t wish my issues on anybody else, however, it is nice to know that we are not alone in this world, and hence, why I add my 2 cents on GT whenever I get the urge!

I think in no time, you will see how much positive your situation will bring to others, and in an odd way it may be worth it…since we can’t win our money back.

We can allow bad experiences to defeat us or we can turn bad experiences around and make them enhance the rest of our lives. I think your speech poked a stick in the eye of addiction.
