      Hi all
This is my first post here so hello to everyone

For the past year or so I have had a major gambling problem, mainly roulette. I often bet far more than I can afford to lose and it is seriously effecting my life. Needless to say the problem arouse from me often getting lucky and raking in a lot more money than I’m used to having. Just last week I won £1400 but spent that all back on gambling within 10 minutes. I had £400 before going in and managed to clear my bank out.
Only working part time I can’t afford this stupid habit and have tried so have to stop, even now I am wanting to gamble and simply can’t because I’m too broke. Already this morning I have planned my next trip to the casino when I get paid, but in reality as much as I want to do so, it’s for the wrong reason of ‘knowing’ I will win. I almost definitely won’t and will hate myself for doing so (it won’t be the first time, I have had to drink to the point of passing out before to even sleep with the regret and stupidity ive felt!)
I really don’t know how to control my urges and hope posting here and being honest is my first step.

Thank you for taking the time to read this

I’m feeling rather low today and was considering selling things to have money to gamble. I have resisted the urge though and feel proud that I was able to shake it off

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team

Welcome to this site and well done for starting your Journal here.
Your second post illustrates something of the battle in your mind, but also shows that you can use wise thinking to overcome the addictive thinking and urges. Most people benefit from support in doing this; it can be a tough battle and it helps to know you are not alone. There are staff, volunteers and many other members here, who care about you and want to help you go forward.
So keep posting, so we know more about you and what is happening. Also read the stories and comments of the others here, join the Support Groups and discuss things in ‘real time’.
Learn about protecting yourself and your money – ie, putting barriers in place, so that you make it difficult to access gambling.
      Wishing you well.

      Monique

welcome to the forum Raiiboii. Right now your addiction is totally in control and it feels almost impossible to resist the urge to gamble. We start thinking crazy thoughts when we lose a lot of money. About how to get that money back or replace it. It becomes a vicious cycle. Is there any support groups in your area? or free gambling addiction counselling? What about having a very close family member or friend hold money for you or give you an allowance? If we don’t have money, as miserable as we feel, we can’t be gambling. I hope you are able to find some resources to help you. Keep posting and reading! take care,
      Laura

Thank you all for the comments.
Tonight I was stupid and gambled more than I should of yet again. The silver lining is I won exactly the same amount back I has bet and cash out out online. I will have to wait a few days for the withdrawal but when I get it through I am removing my account with the company as I have with every other online site, this is the last one I’ve yet to remove and after tonight I’m ready to stop completely and go on the road to recovery

You are taking the right steps to stop gambling – you must remove access to the source of gambling for you. If it’s online like it was for me – close those accounts – you may also want to look for some applications you can get to block gambling sites from your internet browser. There are several out there – they vary in cost.

Keep posting on your forum thread – you may also want to post on other’s threads to provide support to them in their recovery.

Dealing with Compulsive Gambling isn’t something you can do alone or in isolation. Support from others is most important. Keep coming here as often as needed to not place that next bet… you keep doing that one day at a time… it only matters that you don’t gamble today – live in the moment not in the past or future.

      Stay strong!
      Lee
